Hi bros and sis,
Just thought I share what I've done to my Xiao Hong.

1. Voltage Stabiliser & 6-point Grounding (Wanted to do the R-type 7-point one but out of stock! Grrr....)

2. Circuit Breaker

3. SR Typhoon (I know the guy who invented this)

4. Simota Metal Air Filter

5. Cold Air Intake (CAI)

I reckon this is good enough for a 1.8L so far 'cos my last installation of SR Typhoon and CAI really make my Xiao Hong fly like nobody's business! Now there is a surge of power even on low RPMs.

Now just pump new tank, so testing the FC this time. Use to do 360km on a 44L pump. :P

So anyone wants to share what they have done for their ride? :whistling:

Hi there,
Wah I can't really advise you because I'm not a car guru. But I can simply explain in lay man terms for you.

1. Voltage Stabiliser & Grounding - It is suppose to regulate the smooth supply of current to the the major electrical parts of the car. This is reduce the stress on the battery and makes these parts work more efficiently. It is known to prolong the lifespan of the battery and improve on the FC. This is usually done through the process called 'Grounding' or 'Earth Cabling' using grounding cables. I'm using gold plated ones.

5 common grounding parts are:
a. Car body
b. Firewall (on car body. between engine and driver)
c. Distributor
d. cylinder head
e. alternator

If you have a 6th cable, like mine, I would ground it to my auto transmittor.

My brand: Deizin

2. Circuit Breaker - Purpose is to protect all your circuits in the car in any event of a electrical overload. Rare to happen but you never know. When it does happen, all you need to replae is your spark plug which cost you a few dollars only.

My brand: CarLink (Not known brand)

3. SR Typhoon - This is actually an Air Boost System which has the following qualities:

a. Improves the torque of your car from low to mid range RPM.
b. Better efficiency for your rides
c. Improves FC with better combustion --> reduce harmful CO emission
d. Reduce engine noise

Let me know if you wanna look into distributionship in your country. This really works.

My brand : SR Typhoon lah!

4. Simota Air Filter - Air Filter no need to explain right? The good thing about this is that the air filters can be use for years because it is made of stainless steel. Every now and then just take it out to air clean it and do some oiling. The air flow will be much better as well.

5. CAI - Cold air intakes route intake plumbing away from hot underhood areas, and deliver air through a free-flowing air filter and smooth intake passages. Hence cooler, denser air is delivered in greater quantities at higher velocities to your throttle body. Denser air, and more of it, equals power.

What I've done is DIY. You can get those brand like K&N ones which will cost you a lot more.

Ok that's all for now... nin peh feel like a teacher suddenly... but do check up the net for more info on these things before installing. :)

Yeah no worries.

I don't think you can find it over in your country yet because I have not started the distributionship. :57:

Drop me an email if you're keen. lryonyn@hotmail.com.

No worries bro. Hope you notice the difference. You may like to install a Light Pulley during your next servicing. I heard there will be a big difference to your performance. I have not done it myself, just waiting for my next servicing.

How is the engine noise before and after you installed the SR Typhoon? earlier we had numbers of 1.8 owner complaining about the engine noise.

I Hope with your discovery will improve the sound.

cool upgrades!..

Hi bro,
The difference between a 1.8 and 1.6 is that the wall is insulated. Hence from inside the car, it is super quiet. But on the outside, the engine noise is audible but not like what the other bros have experienced. So after installing SR Typhoon, the engine noise is kept to the minimum and it is perky when low rpm cos of the high revolution of air that is being pumped in.

Of late, I've installed another device called Cold Charge (Just came out 3 weeks ago) which taps from your cold aircon air and pump into the chamber. The difference is that your petrol will combust more efficiently and I've observed an overall smoother ride now. :57:

Some more not expensive. Trying is believing.

bro, are you saying that 1.8 have better sound insulation? Earlier, I thot its the tappet sound or something causing the loud sound which kindda diesel engine noise from the engine. me hv'nt got d chance to compare 1.8 and 1.6 side by side.

hey bro,
no leh, if fact my car is pretty smooth and I'm pretty happy. I think it's because of the SR Typhoon and the Super Cold Charge.

Ok here are the list of benefits for the SCC:

Features:

- Suitable for all vehicles
- Easy installation
- Transferable from car to car
- Maintenance free
- Good throttle response
- Better pickup and response
- Smooth cruising at high speed
- Reduce CO emission
- Improve fuel efficiency

S$128 including installation. Can call my friend Richard up and check with him on both SR Typhoon and Super Cold Charge. Details in the urls below:

http://coldcharge.blogspot.com/

http://www.srtyphoon.blogspot.com/

So now, enjoy your new smooth ride! If it's good, let me know, just PM me!

Hey! Babymatrix!

Saw your modifications! Coool!

Anyways, I'm thinking about the CAI system for my buggy.

What I like most about your Air Charger Booster is that it is not an OPEN PORT thingy. It is less costly and does not require much modifications. I made a few enquiries and Silent Pro Shop has quoted me about S$270 including installation.

Is that a reasonable price?

Furthermore, in theory, CAIs do improve torque and performance. However, does it also consume more petrol on our daily rides?

I noticed that your installers tied down some sort of insulating foam over the tubes. Is that a necessity? Does condensation and residue collect frequently?

You also have the Cyclone thingy. Does that really work? I've seen their demo kit at Sung Beng Auto. If it is that effective, why not just install this part?

Need your help, bro....

Thanks!

Hey bro,
I dunno if you're referring to the CAI or the Cool Air Charge for $270... if it's for CAI, it's cheap. Cool Air Charge should be around $125 only for device and installation.

CAI basically keeps the petrol as cold as possible so that it combust more efficiently and hence more power and torque. It should not affect your current mileage that much unless you're always that discipline to keep it within the 2500 to 3000rpm.

The foam that is commonly use is made of EVA. Should be able to withstand up to a few hundred degrees celscius of heat. Mine is made of solid compressed cotton which is able to withstand more than 1000 degress of heat. But this one quite hard to find so just settle for the EVA one. Thicker the better to keep the cold air as cool as possible before reaching the engine. No worries about condensation and stuff...

Not Cyclone... mine is SR Typhoon. Cyclone you pay like $300+ I think? And does not really work. SR Typhoon is just a device which changes the airflow pattern into a hurricane-like rotating flow so that more air is being pumped into the chambers than before. SR Typhoon is only like $125 including installation of less than half an hour.

Whatever you do to your ride, mileage is affected by many other things:
1. Your foot control on your acceleration
2. Your % of city driving
3. Your tyres if got enough air
4. Your daily average load in the car
5. The weather - cold weather our Matrix is like flying
6. Some people believe some petrol brand doesn't burn as efficient as others. After some research, quite true. Cheap doesn't mean good or lasting.

Good luck.
