i have a 1988 Excel GLS Hatchback 5dr Man 5sp 1.5 and lately it has been seriously over reving when at idle but not when in motion. When stationary with the clutch depressed the car over revs and wants to jump forward just like if i was to put my foot on the break and accelerator at the same time and when i release the clutch the reving lowers a bit. After doing a few checks i think i could be the accelerator mechanism is stuck some how and this is why the car is over reving badly because the engine is receiving a depressed accelerator input.

If anyone else has had a similiar problem and know what could be done to fix the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

John

Looking at this diagram it appears there's a relay called Idle Up, that might have something to do with it ?

Look at the bottom right of the pic and you'll see where it shows RLY - IDLE UP.

HI
no i meant the IDLE MOTOR..its mounted on the THROTTLE Body . It in under the hood right above and to the right of the fuel filter on my HYUNDAI 92 EXCEL. Mine went bad and the car idled really high and was reving...its called the idle SERVO motor but in fact it controls the idle..It's an expensive part. THe idle screw is SEt by the factory and you should not move it..hope this helps~

Well, if you get a good mechanic to adjust your idle screw, it would be a lot cheaper than replacing the idle motor. Just make sure they know what they are doing. :57:
