Dear friends

I own a Hyundai Elantra model 95.

I have the following Symptoms
1. Engine will not start or hard to start
2. Rough Idle, with engine stalls
3. Engine hesitates / Poor acceleration
4. Poor fuel Mileage

After going thru the Shop Manual, Exhaust Emission System pg. 29-3.

I rectified vacuum hose & consulted with my Car Technician.
I was told that EGR has nothing to do with mileage
and basically used only in the western countries like US.
Is this true ??

I noticed that green hose connected to
E Port (shown in picture)
is actually blocked/sealed by my Car Techician.
Is this OK ?

After I rectified vacuum hose (striped)
& green hose was blocked,
I noticed that Rough Idle & Poor Acceleration
is a lot better. :57:

However Symptom 1 & 4 seem to be still there.
Please advise.

Regards,
Bhargava

Well, there are probably as many reasons why your idle can be bad as I've had cooked dinners!

First things to check:
1. Check for any other vacuum leaks.
2. Check the ignition timing is within spec
3. Perform a compression test.
4. Check the camshaft belt timing.
5. Inspect spark plugs for fouling.
6. Check ISC motor windings.
7. After above are fixed reset the BISS (Basic Idle Set Screw) and recalibrate the TPS.

Did I mention you will need a shop manual to have any hope? All these procedures are outlined in there.
