I have had my XG for about a month now and keep noticing a sound that's driving me crazy. Basically, I can hear it at very slow speeds. Mainly when I accelerate from completely stopped, or when I am slowing down and have almost stopped. I thought it was only when AC was on, but it's not. The best way to describe it is a grinding sound. Almost like a diesel engine or a noisy fan. It sounds like it's coming from the driver side under the hood. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, except my ears. Please help. It really takes away from the smoothness of the car.

Thanks in advance.

although l sympathise with your problem it is going to be very hard to offer any diagnosis within this forum as the cause could be any number of things and without road testing the vehicle it would be missleading to offer any advice. best take it to your dealer and let a tech. road test it for you

Let me know what you find. I just bought a used 2004 xg and unfortunately never heard the grinding (more of a low growling sound) until I got it home and did a cold engine start. When I bought it, the car was always warm.
It lasts about a minute or so when I put into Drive or Reverse and goes away as I accelerate and is completely gone after a minute or so when the car warms up. I cannot reproduce after the engine is slightly warm. I'm hoping that it is some kind of engine mount thing but kind of scared I bought someone else's problem. (private sale).

They replaced the transmission under warranty. Problem solved.

I was fearing transmission. I changed the fluid and replaced with hyundai trans fluid and no difference. Since I bought this used, I'm thinking that is why they were selling it. I really don't hear it now in the summer months. I may just cross my fingers and run it to failure as it really can't be diagnosed right now. Maybe in the winter when it comes back I'll have someone look at it.
Thanks

My wife's XG350 had the Trans replaced at 58,000. I had a soft gear whine at about 40-50mph. You could hear only in 4-5 gears and a steady speed. My wife couldn't hear it at all, but when I drive maybe once a month, I heard the noise and took it to the dealer. They replaced the trans. No questions took a week to order it and 2 days in the shop.

Q.
