Hi Everybody in Hyundai World,

I Bought a new Terracan in November 2004 and it has done about 20,000 miles. It is the 2.9 DTI engine and ever since new the gear change when cold is difficult particularly from 1st to 2nd but when it warms up it is OK. Has anybody experienced this problem and managed to find a solution. It has been suggested the type of gear oil used by Hyundai is too thick for our climate in the UK.

Also anybody ever fitted a front push type towbar to the Terracan? If so have you experienced any problems with the fit?

Any comments or suggestions are welcomed.

Hi everyone,

I too have a difficult 1st to 2nd gearchange. Terracan has done 49k miles and I am thinking of changing the gearbox oil to Castrol TAF-X

Has anyone tried different oil ? and did it make a difference ?

Have you an auto change box? many folk find by topping up the transmission oil it improves gear changes visit us at the www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk and contact Admin there as he is a Hyundai engineer and will be able to help you with the enquiry. That is unless anyone on this web site is more able to give you a quick answer to the question you raised.

Hi, I think its a pretty common thing with manual tcans, just like it was with the old shogun/pajero. I think i am right in saying they share the same box. I have learned to live with it, as otherwise it is a strong, well proven gearbox. Please keep us informed if a change of oil makes any difference! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frozen.gif)
