Burning smell after driving car

Is anyone else experiencing a burning smell from under the hood after driving? My wife now has 1100 miles on the car and we have noticed the smell since we purchased it new. I originally thought maybe it was a plastic bag on exhaust (nope) or it was just the exhaust/cats/engine parts burning off the "new car smell". I was just sniffing some more around the car as my wife just returned home and I have narrowed it down to the hood insulator pad. I guess from the heat of the engine it's causing it to heat up and release this smell. I can't locate the smell coming from the engine bay or under the car. Def the heat pad attached to the underside of the hood. Probably take the car to dealer and have them look at it.

I drive a 2012 Veloster and noticed a smell similar when I first bought the car. I now have 4400 miles and have owned the car for 3 months. The smell has gone away. I would assume its just oil or something burning off. Wouldn't worry yet.

I used to work for Kia and we would get this complaint all the time also the complaint of the new vehicle is leaking something on the ground. When the manufacturer ships the vehicle they coat the underside of the vehicle with a coating that protects it from salt and corrosion. I can't remember the name of it now as its been 5years since I was there but on the assembly line when it goes to roll off they spray it underneath and sometimes it sprays in the engine bay. It takes a while for this stuff to burn off. I've seen sometimes where it oversprayed in one spot and it almost looked and felt like petroleum jelly. When it heats up and drips off it leaves a slight discoloration on your concrete until you get a hard rain then it washes away. The heat from the road surface helps the product soak into the small crack and holes on the under body. I'll keep looking for the name of this stuff but I'm pretty sure this might be what your smelling burning off. I had it on my heat shield on both of my Turbo sonatas.we still smell it and both of them have 3,500 miles

I had the smell for the first 1000 miles. Haven't noticed it since I hit the 2000 mile mark.

It's a new car, things are going to burn off.

i have a 2006 santa fe and have experienced this burning smell only for the last 1000 miles or so. I just had a 48-point inspection at the hyundai dealer and they found nothing wrong that would lead to such a smell. I did not mention the smell before the inspection, however. Has anyone else determined how to correct this condition? Thanks for any insight.

FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I ONLY HAVE 28,900 MILES ON THE CAR, SO THE PROBLEM STARTED AT ABOUT 28,000 MILES. THANKS

Thanks for the info guys. My new lancer evolution doesn't smell after a drive. This smell is pretty unique. Not the typical new car burn smell that lasts a few hundred miles. I am happy to say, that now with 4700 on the odo the smell is pretty much gone
