I have a 2.0t with about 13,000 miles on it. Recently it has been sputtering during the high rpm startup cycle. I have tried adding Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner twice, with no noticable improvement. I use 87 octane gas from Costco, which has 10% ethanol. I'm concerned the injectors are starting to clog. I also noticed my mileage indicator seems lower than before, although I am driving more city miles than when I first bought the car. I changed out the air cleaner element as well. Any suggestions?

My only criticism of you would be that you aren't using TopTier gasoline.

Differential diagnosis (not in order of likelihood).

1. Valve deposits vis a vis direct injection gremlins.

2. Injector buildup due to not using toptier gasoline and techron treatments (consistently).

3. Engine timing/tuneup. You may have faulty spark plugs. The guy at nameless apparently thinks our plugs are going to be "fouled" prematurely due to using 87 octane gasoline.

4. Emissions, not otherwise specified. Loss of fuel economy and power may be due to a bad fuel-air mix. O2 sensor comes to mind, although I don't know much about it.

Take it to the dealership. Tell them you're noticing a loss of fuel economy and have noticed a rough startup. Good luck! Let us know how it goes, please.

Try a couple of tanks of Shell 93 octane.

Costco could be adding more than 10% ethanol to their gas as well. I own a small boat with a 4 stroke Yamaha on it. The marina I use sells gasoline with zero ethanol in it. The mechanics at the marina say ethanol is ruining marine engines. I believe it.

The GDI uses a double pulse injection at cold start light off the catalyst to get it working in matter of seconds.. dont know it Hyundai pulled same feature into the TURBO model' program.. that might be what you feeling.. quick look at current data list for 1st and 2nd injector pulse time would verify that feature.

Save your money on chemicals for time being..may be a waste of money.

I have a 2011 Turbo Limited with about 400 miles on it. The last 4 days upon startup, the engine has a "rough" sound to it, the RPMs go up to about 2 for 10 seconds or so, then to the very quiet, normal sound around 1 on the dial. It only makes this noise/rough start upon sitting overnight. Am taking it to the dealer this week. I've never had a turbo, so this may be normal for all I know, but I want them to check it out anyway.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Without actually hearing it, it sounds normal based on your description.
On cold start the computer holds the RPM's around 2000 for a brief period to get the catalytic converter up to temperature and assist in reducing emissions. I believe this is based on coolant temperature at the time of start-up, but I couldn't tell you what the magic number is.
There is also a known issue with the turbo wastegate actuator rod vibrating during this period of time that makes a rough, rattling (or sand being shaken in a tin can) noise.

Unless the engine died after startup or doesn't complete it's cold cycle, who cares if it's sputtering or not. This is a turbo engine, it has to close off alot of vacuum and air flow before the turbo gets up to temperature, and it causes things like that to happen. I wouldn't worry about it or be concerned unless it's sputtering while driving, as in you can hear it sputter or feel it, and a check engine light comes on.
