Confusion! Do I need to use synthetic oil in my Sonata 2.0T? Owner's manual is vague, called the dealer service dept and they weren't sure--said they use 5w 20 in everything. I live 150 miles from nearest Hyundai dealer. First oil change (3500 miles) done at Chevy dealer, they used 5W 30--said synthetic not necessary as long as oil changes done often. Better to change oil more often than to use synthetic. Second oil change due, took car to local independent oil/lube store--they said would ONLY change oil if using synthetic. Any recommends?
Thanks,

Synthetic is not required but I use it in mine. Also make sure they use 5W 30 or 5W 40 as 5W 20 is not recommended for the 2.0t engine.

Don't go by what the dealer says that's wrong info. Manual recommends 5w40 and does not specify Dino or syn. I have always used 100% syn in the past and that's what I will stick to. Costs more but makes up for it with it's many advantages

For the love of God, let's not start another one of these synthetic vs. conventional debates!

Read this whole thread. Everything you want to know is either linked or discussed.

Does anyone have any recent lab analysis info available after a few oil changes?
