Top Speed... in reverse

Ok, probably a semi-useless bit of info but in case anyone needs some reverse speed to perform a J-turn someday. I forgot something at home this morning so instead of turning around I figured I'd just back up my street. It was only about 1/8 mile (if that). So I'm giving it more and more throttle as I'm backing up and feeling that the car isn't going to fast. I take a quick look at the speedometer and see that I'm doing about 23MPH. More throttle didn't really change that. I didn't put it to the floor and wast out to set a speed record but I expected to be going faster.

I'm not sure about yesterday but I tested this twice in the mall parking lot a little while ago. Started to back-up and then "put it to the wood". Quick acceleration up to 23/24 MPH then it flattened out and wouldn't go any faster. The car was out of EV mode.

I believe all cars only have one reverse gear. I believe the fastest that I've driven in reverse was about 35-40 (different car). Pretty much RPM limited/didn't have a need to go any faster. The local circle track has reverse races as part of the line up some nights. They have to be doing at least 40.

The car felt like it was electronically limited. Like when you have an electronic speed limiter for forward top speed. The car will pull good until you get to that speed and then it just hangs there/won't go any faster.
