Electric A/C compressor question

Hey all-

I dont get the impression that anything is not working correctly but when i turn on the AC, the compressor is not super loud but sounds like a tiny gas powered weed trimmer. It was about 90 and warm and i have the ac set to 68 degrees and fan speed about 3 or 4.

Does your ac compressor sound like this?

Mike

Hybrid compressor will have a varying degree of noise between units. It is not a conventional swah/piston displacement,, rather the compresor used is a "scroll" type.

That's not too far off the sound mine makes.

Hey, at least it blows cold air!

Touring the greater Houston area and trying to save a little gas doing it!

The higher the fan speed the louder it is, heh.

Havent really listened to the compressor sound but have heard the engine cooling fans whir up when running ac, the system is phenomenal, it doesnt require mechanically driven compressor relying on engine rpms to drive and can run at optimum efficiency while sitting at idle in traffic. Have been running mine in eco mode and it gives me 36-38deg out of the vents in 90+ weather.

My weed eater is nosier than my AC compressor but that's what it sounds like to me! Sometimes that's the only noise that my car makes when I'm driving through a parking lot!! In the spring and fall when I turn off the AC and roll down the windows I have crept behind people walking in a parking lot and not know that I was behind them until one of my tires hit a pebble!! LOLOL!!

Agreed, thats about the best description, a tiny weed eater.
As Carnold said, the AC compressor is the only sound you can hear. With the windows closed you cant hear the engine running. From outside the car its still hard to hear the engine run, only the compressor makes noise.
