Progressive insurance has a discount program called "Snapshot". It involves them sending you a device to track your speed, breaking, and time of driving for a few months. Based on the info you can qualify for a fairly nice discount. Well when you get a new car they make you rerun the tracking.

I found out yesterday that they do not support the Sonata Hybrid for the discount program. Time to do some auto insurance shopping.

"I have reviewed your policy and do see that the 2011 Hyundai Sonata is listed as a covered vehicle on the policy. At this time, the Hyundai is not eligible for enrollment in the Snapshot program. Presently, the only hybrid vehicle that has been tested with Snapshot is the Toyota Prius. This is the only model hybrid presently approved to participate in the Snapshot program."

Perhaps their software issue involving the Hyundai hybrid system will be fixed as the model grows to Prius proportions

Interesting, and also mildly annoying/disappointing. I don't have access to that sort of program (though I like the sounds of it), but thankfully my insurance company gave my wife and I a $40/month discount on our Sonata Hybrid over a Sonata GLS simply for having a hybrid. I think the mentality might be that since people that own hybrids try and get the best mileage out of it they will drive it slower/more carefully. They didn't comment on the exact reasons for the discount, but I'm not complaining.

PS. I guess they're not aware of the torque pull on the Sonata Hybrid that makes it very fun to drive fast... Shhhh...

Since Progressive cut my discount I went shopping last night. All places I checked were cheaper. One odd one was Esurance. They had a good rate, but the web site gave me an error on the VIN. I called and found they would not insure the Sonata Hybrid because it was manufactured outside the US.

I ended up switching to 21st Century as they had the best rate. They were $62/m cheaper than progressive for better coverage.
