Has anyone bought the compact spare for the 2015- 2016 model year? Getting conflicting reports that no "spare tire kit" has been made for these years. Trying to by one on E-bay and he says this would not fit due to the calipers.
I'm just wondering since there is no trunk space for one, they just don't list one ?
Can't drive around without a spare, we travel many miles away from home.
Now it seems the 2016 - 2017 HSH has some body style change and the 2011 - 2015 hybrid rim they sell (09100-4R999) won't "work". I really getting frustrated, don't want a full size tire in my trunk. I can not find any "tire" site with any regular rim, different for the Hybrid models except the different rim size for the limited model.
Just spoke to the service manager where we bought this, he stated the same but is going to order a 11-'15' rim kit and see if (or why) it doesn't fit. If not just return it.
Very interesting ! I jacked up the car, front and rear. Put on the 2015 Hybrid spare rim. No problem. In neutral the front spun with lots of space for the calipers. Even in the back, with a bit different calipers, they spun fine. I had the parts manager and one of the mechanics check it out. They don't know why there is no compact spare listed. The mechanic said there was lots of room for the rim.
So, I ordered one with a tire, $175 w/ship. Dealer wanted $265 for the kit, no tire. I thanked him for getting the rim to try. They are interested in why there is no spare listed. Now wondering how I jack up the car with the scissor jacks as I used a floor jack.
I suspect it will work fine. When the LF Sonata was first produced, I checked the spare tires that came with the non-hybrid LFs and, from what I recall, it uses the same spare as the YF Sonata (including the part listed for the hybrid). I had assumed that it would be the same for the LF hybrid, and it sounds as if that is the case -- just that Hyundai doesn't list it (likely because it is missing the storage area under the trunk floor.
Still trying to find our about our non-existent spare tires. I found an interesting article in 2013 about the Ford Fusion Hybrid. Rather then repeat, read the article by someone as interested as me as to why my $38K car does not have a lousy spare tire. P.S. the Fusion Hybrid does not either, nor state using one in the manuals. They have one of those useless inflators, which AAA says messes up the tire for repair.
<<< Most automobile manufacturers deem the tire to be scrap once that sealant is applied," Berger says. There's a chemical interaction between that seal and the tire. And the material that's left behind really can't be cleaned effectively to ensure that it won't hurt the tire, he says.
Conversely, GM's Cowger says that the sealant material, which solidifies into a rubbery substance, can be cleaned out. The tire can then be repaired just like any other, provided that the puncture is in the tread, not the sidewall.>>>
Those interested in buying just a rim. There is a Continental 135/90-R16 that is 25.6 inch in diameter. Nissan Altima's use that tire
Very close to the 26.3 of the 17" rims and 26.5 of the 16" rims.
They are hard to come by, Tire Rack has a decent price unless you can find one on E-bay.
Many interesting facts on temp spares. All newer car owner are finding out that spares are an "option" so lots of chatter on the car forum sites.
There is a Size: 145/90D16 that is exactly 26.3 in diameter. Same diameter as my 215/55/17 and .2 " bigger then the 205/65/16.
This is better then the 23.9" spare on the 125/80/16
Plus it has a speed rating of M (81mph) and what looks like a flat tread. Unlike the round tread of the 125/80/16. Of course it's printed on the side 55 MPH max.
I just bought a 145/90/16 with a tire diameter of 26.3. The exact diameter of my 215/55/17 that is on the limited.
I will be taking the tire off my spare (125/80/16) and putting this on it.
All of $63 plus $12 shipping. This can go on the front or rear tire with no worry about different size tires. Plus is has a flat tread and is speed rated at 81 MPH. Yet printed at 55 mph, that could be a rim problem since they are smaller.
Just don't by the Goodyear ones.. 145/80/16 $130 or so. The spare tire kit fits in the back where the old battery used to go. Still leaves me with a decent trunk.
