What factors control the Economical/Normal/Aggressive driving numbers?

I figure that when I stay below 40% engine power it counts as Economical. I know that when I "step on it" to merge on the highway shortly after resetting the counters, it bumps up the Aggressive counter. But what else goes into it?

Given the sensors, it could be frequent lane changes since the Lane Departure Warning and the turn signal would show a lane change. Given the adaptive cruise control range sensor, it could be following too closely. It also could be harder than normal braking frequently.

But I can't find any documentation. I normally sit at 2% Aggressive and close to 40% Economical and 60% Normal. When my spouse drives, however, Aggressive gets pushed up to 35%.

I did notice that when the cruise control is engaged, those counters freeze, as they should.

Any thoughts?

Besides, why would the car care?
The manufacturer could have an interest in reducing crashes by giving people feedback on how their behavior may be contributing. Every accident avoided by safer driving is one less chance for a lawsuit by the driver and/or the victims.

And if the manufacturer is collecting that data via the car computer or Internet connection anyway, they could use it to lessen their liability for an accident by showing contributory negligence on the driver's part. Kind of like how Tesla can tell within hours whether someone was using Autopilot when they wreck.

So they might ask themselves "Why not make the driver part of the solution?".

I have Liberty Mutual's "RightTrack" 90 day trial which monitors how fast you accelerate and how hard you brake. Based on your results you can lower your bill by 5-20%. My wife is on track with 7% and mine is 14%.

I think it is related strictly to the right foot / the throttle load (acceleration), and the duration of that load.

Popping up that screen during/after braking never seems to reveal any change, but throttle load certainly has.

The choice of ECO / NORMAL or SPORT also seems to have an effect on how much engine load triggers changes in your driving rating. Currently at 98 % Economical, 2 % Normal, 0 % Aggressive.

I use normal mode, don't use CC and have not seen a rating change at steady hwy speed, even maintaining speed uphill.
