Just today my brake pedal started making a strange noise when I slowly but firmly push it to the floor while the car is in park. Don't know if you can get to the links to hear it as the bbs won't let me attach the mp3 file. Here are two links. Each time I push the pedal you hear the noise:
Stop by the Hyundai Stealer today and played the recording for them - the car is not making the noise today. The response I got was some hybrids make noises like that. They then told me if it is not doing that when I bring it in there is nothing they can do as they can't just replace parts. ARG!!!
I just had this happen to mine 1,000 miles out of the 60,000k warrenty. Its the master cylinder leaking into the booster. If you look at the back of the pedal you will see it pushing a pin with a rubber boot around it. Remove the boot and I bet you'll see some brake fluid. $1100 quote from the dealer. I bought the part online and saved $200-300.
I've had this since day one. Took it to the dealer and they said the brakes were functioning normally. Now, at 110K miles never had any problems with the brakes.
There is a problem there, but who's to say if it will become an issue? I can tell you that if I bought the car new, I'd be back telling them I don't care how many parts you throw at it as long as that squeak is gone!
Had the car in yesterday for oil change and to put my winter tires on. They checked it but could find nothing, as it only made the noise for that one day and has not done it again. They said they have heard this on other cars on the lot but have never found anything wrong. Oh well, at least it is on the record at this point.
I have owned two 2013 Sonata Hybrids, and the brake pedal on both of them squeaks intermittently. It seems to happen most often when you stab the pedal in a quick fashion.
Since this just came up in another thread, I figured I would bring some closure to this one. The brake squeak finally stopped for me after I had my first brake job. So, if a brake job could stop it, it would seem there's nothing normal about it to begin with.
I have a ticking sound. You can make it happen with the car off by stepping on the brake. It appears that Hyundai Part 58620-4R001 Hydraulic Power Unit Assembly is vibrating and making the noise. I'm not sure how serious a problem that it is. The part goes for about $1,200 plus labor to install. Does anyone know if this is a problem? Made a short video at
Recorded on my phone while it was sitting as close to the part as possible.
