The Blue Drive requires you to press further into the gas pedal (more travel than a normal car), but it means you get finer sensitivity, i.e. you can control the eco gauge on the left far easier. It means you get much less peppy starts (it's a sedate acceleration instead) but you get better conservation. The "Black" drive means that you get more responsiveness and more use of combined EV+ICE but it is harder to control the flow of power and a smooth and steady pace, which is how you'll get good numbers in city driving. I used to drive only in black mode for familiarity. Now I only use it if I'm in a real big hurry, or I need some power right now. You'll develop a new driving style for this car that won't be quite like how you drove a standard gas car, but I don't think it's such a bad thing.
