While driving the Santa Fe, the engine just stopped running. I tried restarting, the engine turned over, but wouldn't fire. Once I got it home, I ran through everything I could think of and found that for some reason the fuel pump relay in the fuse box isn't getting any voltage when I turn the ignition on to the accessory side. If I take the key off, it shows I've got 12v running to it.

Im assuming this is the problem as I have tested the pump and it seems to work fine, checked the spark plugs, which they are firing. Starter fluid was used briefly to see if the engine fired, which it started just fine with it. Not sure what exactly would cause just the relay to the fuel pump to stop working as all the other relays seem to be working fine. Any suggestions?

Dear jb,

On things electrical, get out that 5 year/60,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty and I hope I caught you before you go over miles.

Also, did you replace the relay and the fuzes? this is one of those cheap and easy fixes that may be worth the $20 just to have your SF running again.

I've double checked all the fuses on it, and they are all good. I've taken the relay out and replaced it with a working relay and nothing. Although yesterday I thought the spark plugs were working as the engine fired using starter fluid, however I unplugged one to test for a spark and didn't get anything from it, so now it appears the plugs aren't firing either.

What would stop the spark plugs from firing?

I've done some researching and think I've tried everything else possible...Could it be the Crankshaft Position Sensor? I've pulled mine off and got a few quotes from the parts store and they are around $200. Is there anyway to test the one I have myself?

It could be the CPS. Do you have a CEL (Check Engine Light)?
