problem starting 04 santa fe

love my santa fe has been great but recently after putting fuel in
it does not seem to want to start.turns over and runs for a couple seconds then dies out.
have to keep accelerator pushed down for it to keep running. after that it seems to run and crank ok
any idea why it keeps dying out after fueling?

More than likely a purge control valve. It's a know problem on this vehicle and you see all kinds of posts on it. If you look at step ten on this spark plug removal you can see it's location(they call it a vacuum valve).

Do you get a check engine light?
I have an 06 Santa Fe, every couple of years I get a check engine light and the code tell me the purge valve. Turns out it is the gas cap itself, the rubber seal on the cap. I just buy a new cap and the light goes away.
If you don't get a light or code, then it's hard to say. Maybe the throttle position sensor?

Garage
If theres a mil, I'd put money on it being the gas cap. When you open the cap, do you hear pressure escaping? That can sometimes indicate a fault in the fuel tank evaporative emission system (but also indicates the cap itself is good, as its holding in the pressure). If you get gas somewhere else for a few fill-ups, and it stops, it might've just been poor quality fuel.

Any chance that you are over-filling the tank ?

On many vehicles, that can get raw gas into the evap. emissions plumbing and cause problems.
