On my 2001 2.4 Santa Fe, I have been seeing this code for a few weeks now, Insufficient EGR Flow.
Silly 2.4 & 3.5 with their EGR systems... 0401, easy code to deal with, just need to learn how system operates..
I have cleaned my EGR valve, reset the code, and 100 miles later, the code came back.
[b]Yep.. wrong repair attempt
I then took the EGR valve out to inspect it, and it looked plenty clean.
I have a replacement EGR valve and gasket coming in tomorrow, hopefully it will fix the problem.
[b]Nope, but you already went and spent $$ for the special order parts, cost you to return them if they'll take them back..
But assuming it doesn't, what else could it be?
[b]That's TOO easy... What controls EGR valve action ??
PCM uses various bits of engine sensor info to determine if we want to use EGR.. so we will duty cycle the EGR SOLENOID to apply vacuum to EGR diaphram to open valve and inject recycled xhaust gas into intake/combustion chamber to cool the mix. We have a vacuum regulator that takes manifold vacuum down to 7 in, and it need to work proper at regulating vacuum for EGR operation.. The regulator has to freely support the 7 inch of vacuum,, not slowly draw it when you test the part.. the solenoid is simple electric/vacuum test of valve inside.
We have more or less got to point that we just sell the regulator and soleniod and be done with it, then drive with vacuum gauge tapped into tube at EGR valve and watch for vacuum apply on top of valve.
Pep Boys also told me I may need to replace the EGR purge solenoid and the EGR canister.
[b]EGR purge ?? Dont think so.. EGR canister ?? Me thinks Beavis and company need to attend some proper engine controls/drivabilty/advanced emissions training courses
I hear it could also be that the DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced.
[b]FORD--> YES,,, Hyundai -----> NO
These parts (solenoid, canister and DPFE) I have been unable to locate or identify, in the car or online. I will certainly follow up after I replace the EGR valve.
[b]Did I mention the EGR valve WILL NOT remedy the problem ??
