If it was my car, I'd make sure my clutch fluid reservior is well bled and clean. That means separating the fluid lines, cleaning the master and slave cylinders out, etc. Often the master cylinder will get gunked up and the clutch will not fully disengage, causing clutch slippage. Sounds like you burned it up, though. Or at least "glazed" the surfaces a little.
Do you have a manual Trans, if not your describing hesitation not clutch. If auto, replace the filter. please post your rides specifics.
