I just had new brakes (pads and rotors) put on my 2003 Santa Fe .. worked fine for 2 weeks or so .. recently started to notice a very slight grinding noise from the rear -- figured the pads were still 'setting' ... tonight, the TCS/ABS lights came on, and there is an almost scary grinding/scraping noise coming from the rear ... E-brake is only partially good, and makes a scraping noise as well...the car stops fine (no pulsing, no pulling, firm pedal)

I am not sure it is safe to drive 25 miles into work (to return to the mech who put on the brakes) ... would like to save $$ on the tow, but if unsafe to drive, I will sacrifice...

Any ideas most appreciated !

The TCS/ABS light may have nothing to do with your brake noise. Most of the time the front Tone rings crack and that causes the light to come on. If you have never had them replaced and seeing you have a 2003, the timing is about right. They rust and then crack. Noise from the brakes is not right and should be check.

Did you replace the calipers? If not, do so. They have a nasty habit of sticking. Replacing them is almost mandatory, sticking or not. The parking brake is self-adjusting. The backing plate rusts away, and the pieces of the parking brake fall out of place. The rear wheel will lock up on you one day. (My little surprise costed me a $350 towing bill when it did) The cost to repair this parking brake deal is stupid to say the least. Even the cables will have to be replaced because the mounting tabs rust off the cables, and they just hang there. I solved my problem by removing everything but the handle inside the car, and just throwing it all in the junk. I have NEVER used a parking brake in my life anyway, and I have been driving since 1961.
