Hi
i bought my terracan a few months back and it has a problem starting when warm, first time start when cold, engine check light flashes when revved but runs great but stop the engine and it takes a lot of turning over to start,it has cut out twice after engine light on for over 30-40 secs.
Thought it may be old brake switch problem but it`s had a replacment at some time with the newer part number or could it still be the switch, anyone help
First things first: You should get your car scanned for error codes and sensor/fuel management operation.
There are many situations causing a hard engine start when hot. Find attached troubleshooting chart form service manual. Some situations may be easy and cheap to correct (clogged air filter), while others may be complicated or expensive (injector replacement due to needle contamination).
Hi
had full service 2 months ago new filters etc ,car has been scanned no codes present, fuel line with none return valve fitted all fuel lines clear, all air ways clear runs excellant no power loss,
If no error codes are present and car had full service with new filters just 2 months ago, I would suspect fuel (maybe contaminated fuel), or possible air leak into fuel filter or lines (check hose connectors for cracks).
Did this problem started all of a sudden or it began mildly then got worse with time? Did it happen after something was done to car or engine? (Like after a fuel fill up?)
Problem started suddenly, there was`nt any work done around that time and was 1/2 way through a tank of diesel, the engine light only comes on when travelling i can rev the car as high as i like at standstill and no check lights come on,thanks for all suggestions, macadams rescue breakdown `mechanic ` came out last night just said `stick some forte in`did not even lift bonnet or check anything
Well my friend, if the Forte additive (tell us which one) works, then it means your problem was around carbon buildup in injectors (chambers, valves, etc).
Hi
thanks for welcome em-squared,tried valve cleaner and 12 volt fuel pump in place of hand primer pump both made no differance looks like it`s off to my local garage this week will post reults soon as i get it back thanks
Hi thanks to all with suggestions
been to diesel specialist seems injectors are not holding pressure and returning too much diesel so looking for replacement injectors and hope it cures the problem.
Is it possible to fit a filter to the high pressure system or would it reduce the pressure too much, may help with any metal filings from the pump as it seems to be a problem on some cars and i would like to protect the injectors if possible
If fuel pressure is within specs, as monitored by the rail pressure sensor, and the injectors are not holding the pressure, then by reducing the pressure you will probably fix the injector problem, but cause a "low pressure" error along the main rail. OTOH, "pressure" is the big secret behind the CRDI technology. By reducing the pressure, you will also reduce engine efficiency. Have in mind that this engine works with 1600 bar pressure, but newer engines as the one on the Santa Fe, work at 2200 bar. Some high end CRDI engines (Audi, VW, Porsche and BMW) work at 2600 bar.
If fact, the ONLY difference between the 150 Hp Terracan and the 162 HP Terracan, is PRESSURE!, and of course, a couple of different parts that can handle the higher pressure, like the injectors...
Hi fitted 4 brand new injectors terracan fired up straight away and starts every time as it should seems to be running fine so far thanks everyone
