Sounds like a screw plug. Either punch it through, which I usually do, or get a sharp knife and carefully try to pry it out while you turn it.

I think you need to have your wires stretched. Sometimes the copper contracts and looses contact. If you go to the local parts store, they'll probably rent you a wire stretcher.

Yeah, but if you have an intermittent signal, then bench testing is almost useless. Recommend you change the wire harness before you do anything else. This is a known, common problem.

If I recall correctly, the 2.4 crank sensors had problems with the wire heating up, becoming brittle, insulation failing, etc. I'd be looking at the wire and connections.

Sounds like a transmission issue to me. If it were clutch, it would happen in all gears is my guess. Take it to another dealer, and if that doesn't work, call HMC and make a warranty issue.
