Have a look underneath at the engine undertray - it may have opening(s) possibly with removeable covers to give access to the sump drain and the filter itself - it may be more convenient to remove the engine undertray to do the job and then refit it afterwards.

The 2006-2009 Santa Fe used a 2.2 CRTD diesel, totally unrelated to the later 2010-on 2.2 CRDi R-series engine - the 2.2 CRTD is related to the earlier 2001-2006 2.0 TD, originally a VM Motori engine but developed/modified/built under licence by Hyundai.

Thanks RT ,
I have a 2007 2.2
If I can get it jacked up enough to possibly get underneath it and have look, and remove the undertray, I will see if its there. I take it you are not entirely sure though, by what I can read from your post, but many thanks RT.

Hi RT
Just wanted to state that it doesnt seem to be a "spin-off" type of filter - the replaceable part is a cartridge - part no. 26320 27401 .

I'm not entirely sure as your 2007 has a completely different engine to my 2011, despite the identical capacity.

Mine is a cartridge element, not a spin-on - no idea about yours.

If your vehicle is Right hand driving, see underneath of your brake oil reservoir (peep on top). you will see oil filter Assy vertically fitted to the engine.

Ahhh thanks maduabey , thats wonderful. It turns out its not a cartridge (that the local Hyundai dealers - well the national one on Iceland ) but a spin-off filter. Probably going to be a pain getting the old one off because its far down , below cables and pipes etc. Hyundai could have designed it better in this respect.
Many thanks for your replies guys and maduabey gets a point for the correct answer
Cheers
Jerry

Maduabey etc. I got it wrong - sorry to the Hyundai dealers- they put me right on the filter- it is indeed a cartridge - what I mistook for a spin-off filter was the cover for the cartridge. I should "spin off" the cover, and remove the used cartridge-and replace with a new one.

Hi all,
To everybody with a 2.2 diesel Santa Fé - the tool for removing the oil filter cartridge cap
, located rather badly, down , in front of the passenger on a left hand drive car - is 80 mm with 15 flats. The oil quantity you will need is 5.9 liters.
