I bought my Accent SE from a dealership about 2 weeks ago. It's a 2013 with double the miles it should have but it was in real nice shape, a unique color (electrolyte green) and had everything I wanted bells and whistles wise. The only issue I have noticed and noticed this when I got in it the second time the day I bought it was it had an "interesting" smell. It's not putrid by any means just unpleasant and annoying. I just figured its been hot lately, maybe it was just left by someone recent in the car for lack of nicer words...
I was handed a carfax that just stated there was 10 service records. I didn't ask for the carfax to be done to where it showed what those records actually were but I pulled it up last night.
Well the A/C system has been looked at or checked about 3 to 4 times. Some type of purge valve has been replaced. And I can see why. The smell comes about when the A/C is on. Which tells me it might be a mold/mildew in the A/C issue but so far everything I've tried doesn't work!
I am thinking this might be the reason the car was sold...
Anyway, so I tried regular air fresheners first. I removed the 3(!) vanilla air fresheners I found hidden under the seat attached to the seat adjuster. I replaced the cabin air filter and found there wasn't one in there previously...(odd). I tried the A/C vent spray specifically for mold and mildew. I also work for a company that redoes cosmetic vehicle interior and exterior repair including "ozoning" cars for bad smells. I got the boss to do this to my car.
Although these steps have improved the smells and the frequency of the smell it still remains.
I am not sure what to try next. I read somewhere to just use plain Lysol and spray it into the vents or cowl panel vent but not sure if I should or not.
Any suggestions??
I saw this was checked into by the dealership the car was purchased from which is down the street from my work ans was thinking about going back to them and trying to get more info. I imagine they might be like oh no not this car again lol.
