1st Oil Change

Well it is really the 2nd but the dealer did the 1st. The car is a 2015, any tips or tricks ( where to put the jack, easiest way to get to drain plug...)? Any help appreciated, I want this to go fast and easy, Thanks.

dunno on the accent, but our elantras do not have a central jack point. only the pinch welds. which makes it difficult. i used to jack up the cars(before elantras) under the engine, then support with jack stands on the welds. now that is not possible. i even tried ramps, they dont get the front high enough for me. the other problem(again, dunno about accent, but you should check), is the splash shield under the engine. that sucker is not that heavy, but it is really cumbersome. and it has to come off for access to the filter. bolts and clips make it crabby to reinstall. so now i just take the cars to an independent down the street. synthetic oil service costs me 54 bucks, parts and labor. it gets better as i get older

What tools/jacks do you have access to.

You MIGHT be able to change the oil without jacking the car up - everything is near the front, but the car is very low to the ground.

Most likely you will want to jack up the RF wheel.

If you have a jack with a large saddle, it will be fine: 1.5 Ton Compact Aluminum Racing Floor Jack with Rapid Pump®

If you have a jack with a small saddle, you might need a small block of wood under it to avoid bending the pinch welds: 2 ton Compact Trolley Jack

2016 Accent has a splash shield but you can remove the filter with it attached. I think early (2012) models did not, but I don't know when they added it, so the 2015 might or might not have one.

I think the drain plug was a 17mm. I needed a breaker bar to remove it the first time, but it shouldn't be that tight.

Oil filter was tight the first time. Use a cup wrench if using the OEM filters or use a rag or some cardboard to take up the slack in the standard band wrench (small).

I recommend installing a Fumoto valve, but that is up to you.

I do have a floor jack but I have not checked if it will fit under the car, Sunday is supposed to be dry and warm so that is the day I am shooting for. I am looking in the owners manual now to see the wieght of oil and how much is needed.

It will probably fit under the pinch welds - it isn't THAT low. (Although I have a fairly low drain pan and it would fit under the oil pan, but BARELY under the crossmember.

I'm running 0W-20 oil (synthetic), but the OM recommends 5W-20, and/or 5W-30.

The OM says 3.8 Quarts. I put 4.0 in and it's a bit above full on the dipstick, but ...

Yep ramps or stands. They make pinch weld adapters to use jacks for modern vehicles. I just use a little bit of cardboard, same idea.

The reason I asked is that, imho, I wouldn't go 7500 miles per change on conventional oil. That's me and I'm sure some don't agree.
