Thumbs up

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone have a definitive answer on what power steering fluid besides PSF 3/ PSF III or PSF 4 we can use?

No Hyundai dealers in my area sell the PSF 3 or 4. I have read on several posts that some people have used Dexron II/III automatic transmission fluid.

I have an 03 Tiburon GT V6. The original power steering fluid does have a reddish/pinkish brown color making me lean towards the automatic transmission fluid hypothesis.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thank you

The Manual lists all correct Fluids for use in your Car. Don't mix fluids!

I have found a couple older manuals that specify "PSF-3, ATF Dexron II type fluid". This seems to indicate that PSF-3 and Dexron II are interchangeable. Please see the attached image of the lube chart from a 99 Sonata manual. Also in an online service manual for 1998-2000 Tiburons found here: http://www.newtonnet.co.uk/coupe/service/w...id=12802#_12802 it only mentions Dexron II.

However in my 2003 manual it only lists PSF-3. How could it be the same as Dexron III in 1999 but a few years later it is not?! Maybe it is just Hyundai attempting to force owners to purchase their fluid?

Anyone?

Yes, Hyundai panders to the dealerships by specifying their own brand named products where ever possible.

PSF3 is (or was) Dexron II ATF. I have substituted Dexron III for Dexron II with no problems. If you read the fine print on the Dexron III bottle, you will usually find a statement that the contents are compatable for application specfying Dexron II and/or III fluids. Dexron III was an improved version of II with better oxidation charateristics. There is a new ATF called Dexron VI, that is a semi- or full synthetic that is specified backwards compatable with Dexron II or III. I have not used Dexron VI as a substitute for PSF3.
