we all have our reasons...might be fun to share.
for me, i like:
hyundai/kia (duh!) - they've come a long way and added a lot of tech into their cars. so far very good R&D that has been put into their cars. i find them reasonably easy to work on which is a big deal to me. i can get hatchbacks, quality is pretty steady across models for the most part.
subaru - bit of a love/hate scenario. they're expensive, engines need an update badly, but they are reliable and its hard to say no to an AWD small car in winter time. nobody else seems to have the stones to make one for an 'affordable' price.
mazda - ended up with a new 3 this past summer, really like it still. they've done an amazing job with the tech in their engines. hatchback, 6spd manual and all the options i could ever want. price wasn't bad either.
cars i don't like:
VW - not because of the emissions scandal. i never liked these things. ever try working on one of these monstrosities? they're not any more reliable than other cars out there (in some cases less) even if they aren't bad in that department. i have always called them the apple computer of the automotive world. plenty of diehard zealot fans, but never been too sure why.
GM, chrysler, ford - dear god why do they even exist still? sure there's some decent cars they have all made but the quality has been pretty bad...chrysler notably. chryslers are an ass to work on, the other two not much better. and the recalls...can't forget that. everyone i know who owns a GM less than 10 years old has had a slew of recalls. no thanks.
nissan - only gripe i have with them is that i can't stand their handling and how they feel on the road....but hey have to like the car you drive right?
honda/toyota - same complaint for both here. their cars are lacking in certain options. no hatchbacks (although many don't, i get that) and the big one is how they treat you if you want to drive stick. ask for that and all the options disappear. ford does this too. i'd rather buy what i want, not what they tell me to. as mentioned in one of my other posts here, i feel that honda has not evolved their cars much if at all for over 10 years. whats really new under the hood? ****, v-tech is over 30 years old now. toyota has become stagnant in other ways as well. nothing exciting about either.
in case you hadn't noticed, i'm not a truck guy. i like my small cars
