Hello All.
Thought I would share my experience installing the OEM fog lights into a 2009 Sonata that didn’t come factory with them. According to Hmaservice, it looks like the vehicle wiring is the same for the 06-08 Sonatas, so this how to most likely applies to those owners as well (of course you will need different fog lights, and maybe the switch part# is different).
I did use the OEM parts but made my own circuit. The way I did it, the fog lights will turn on when you turn the fog switch as long as at least the parking lights are on. That means you can have the fog lights on without the headlights (but must have parking lights on), with headlights, and with high beams. :banana: :banana: Also when you turn on the fog lights the fog light indicator in the cluster will light up just like factory. :gitara:
I have not covered every single detail in this how to so you need to use some common knowledge/sense. Not to be mean, but if you are someone who needs an exact step-by-step guide listing every detail like what bolt to remove or what screw etc., then you should not attempt this install. How to disassemble various parts, connector diagrams, schematics, etc., can be found at www.hmaservice.com.

Parts needed:

* OEM Fog lights – Part #’s: 92202-3k500 and 92201-3k500. (I bought my fog lights on ebay from kdmguy- also known as seoulfulracing.com * in Korea. The pair of fog lights cost me $84 shipped to my door. It took exactly 10 business days to get them.)
* OEM Fog/Light switch – Part #: 93410-3k520
* Fog light relay (This is already installed in the main fuse box, just remove it)
* 16-18ga wire (get like a couple 30-50Ft spools)
* 2 x 880/881 fog light connectors (from ebay or go to any junkyard)
* 1 x 560 Ohm 1/2Watt resistor
* 4 x Female spade connectors
* 2 x T-Taps
* 2 x Ring terminals

Install:

1. Remove front bumper cover.
2. Remove fog hole covers and install new fog light in place.
3. Make the fog light wiring so that you have 1 positive wire and 1 negative wire.
4. Put bumper cover back on and route the wiring up to fuse engine compartment.
5. Attach a ring terminal to the neg. wire and ground it to metal. Attach a female spade connector to the positive wire.
6. Remove lower and upper steering column covers. Remove old headlight switch (just depress the tab and pull it out) Install new Fog/headlight switch.
7. Cut blue wire #12 at light switch connector (This is the fog switch signal). Crimp or solder some wire to it and route it through the firewall in to the engine bay. Attach a female spade at the end of new wire.
8. Cut blue wire #13 at light switch connector (This is the fog switch signal ground). Crimp or solder some wire to it. Attach a ring terminal to the end of new wire and ground it somewhere to metal.
9. Unplug gray connector at top of driver’s side kick-panel. Cut the red wire #14 (This is to light up the fog light icon in cluster). Crimp or solder some wire to it with a 560-Ohm 1/2Watt resistor (Just in case the fog led in cluster doesn’t have a resistor already) and route it through the firewall in to the engine bay. Plug the gray connector back in.
10. Locate the wiring harness plug that goes to the driver’s side headlight. Attach a T-Tap with some new wire to the blue/orange wire (parking light). Connect a female spade at the end of new wire. (This is so that the fog lights only turn on as long as the parking lights are at least on).
11. Attach some new wire to the factory 15A fog light fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. Attach a female spade to end of new wire (This will be our main 12V for the relay).
12. Now you are ready to connect all the wires to the relay. The relay has 4 terminals. They are numbered 85, 86, 87, and 30. Written below is where all the female spades go to their appropriate terminal on the relay:

85 – Connect wire coming from the T-Tap we attached to the parking light wire
86 – Connect wire coming from fog light switch.
87 – Connect the pos. wire coming from the fog lights
30 – Connect the wire coming from the 15A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

13. The last thing you need to do is connect the wire we made for the fog light indicator led. Just use a T-Tap to connect that wire to the positive wire going to the fog light.

14. That’s it! Now you have the OEM Fog Lights installed like factory! Also you can either make a little waterproof box for the relay or tape it up with electrical tape when you are done and neatly tuck everything away.

Pics of the install:

Back of bumper cover

Fog light hole covers. There are only 3 screw. You'll need one more screw to install fog light(If you want it prefect)

Foglight installed in bumper

You'll need this type of connector to plug into fog light. I got mine of a Dodge Neon.

Made my own fog light harness

Neatly zip tied the wiring

Panels/pieces removed

This is the headlight/fog switch harness

Wires #12 & #13. These are the fog switch signal and ground.

The white wire is attached to fog switch signal and goes through firewall. The red wire is grounded to the metal.

This is the gray plug where you have the red wire which lights up the fog led in the cluster.

The red wire you need to cut. Connect a resistor and some wire and run throught firewall. T-tap to fog light pos. wire.

Resistor and new wiring in place

There's the hole where I ran all wires throught the firewall.

T-tap some new wire into the Orange/Blue wire (parking light signal). The new wire connects to 87 on relay.

T-tap in place

This is my main 12V wire wich goes to terminal 30 on the relay.

This is where I T-tapped the fog led wire(the one with the resistor) to the pos. wire going to the fog lights.

Nice Work!!! I want to do this to my Sonata. my only question is where did you find the foglight switch?? (OEM Fog/Light switch – Part #: 93410-3k520) This is a great DIY!!!
I order all my parts from www.hyundaiparts4u.com. They have the lowest prices I have seen on parts, and shipping is like 10% of the total or if it's under $100 it's a flat $10 or so. This website is actually run by Vandergriff Hyundai in Arlington, Tx, an actual dealership.

Camper2099: Thanks for the incredible write up! (And the pics really helped too!) :liebe011: I tackled this project on my '06 and i can tell you it works like a dream. Everything works as it's supposed to, so thanks again!! :clap:

If anyone is thinking about this do it. It is a little nerve racking when you actually cut the 3 wires inside the cabin. I triple and quadruple checked I had the right ones, it's just so scary. But the tutorial couldn't have been written any better.

(Sorry no pics yet)

Camper- Sick install! Thanks for the detailed instructions and the pictures to go along with them! May I ask what part of CT you're in? I'm in the SE region by the casinos. Maybe we can setup some kind of tri-state/NE Sonata meet?
There is also the annual UCONN car show at the Storrs campus this coming up weekend..anyone here going to check it out? I'll probably ask in the NE section as well.

Just a quick question (I think I already know the answer, but better to ask twice and cut once...) I have a 2010 and have what I need to make this work. The question, you said "cut" #12, #13 and #14 within your descriptions. I am pretty sure you mean cut to disconnect current connection, however in some cases you have tap (or splice). Just clarifying. Thank you.

Issues with installing Fog Lights

Thank you so much for the incredibly detailed posted, and because of it I tried this on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata and everything worked perfectly except for the instrument cluster light. I cut the red wire as shown and soldered a resistor to it; however, the light doesn't stay on. It flickers on for a split second when I turn off the fog lights but they never stay on. My connections are solid and my resistor appears to be functional. What do you think could be my problem? Any help would be much appreciated as quickly as possible since my car is only currently all in pieces.
