OK, just noticed this red light flashing on top of the dash. Light is coming from what I thought was the light sensor for the auto light system. Figured it indicated the alarm was armed, but it did not go out when I unlocked and opened the door. Cannot find anything in the manual. What the **** is it?

Thanks,

Eric

Saab starting doing this in '97 all the time in order to deter thieves. My mom's Lexus does it, too. Apparently, the idea is to make them think your alarm is on all the time. Weird, I know.

I thought it was to help you find your car in the dark

Or maybe a new Morse Code signal for any problems with the car for the techs ????

actually that's what I do use it for !! finding the driver's door in the dark is pretty easy - a couple of feet past the blinking light in the garage ... ha ha

Previous owner of '03 Elantra, '91 Excel and '84 Pony .. would love to have the Pony back !!

I don't think it goes off until the ignition is on. But yeah, it's the light indicating there's an alarm.

I don't set any alarms - I don't use the electronic fob's at all - but both of my LX's flash.

The salesman insists it's a psychological theft deterrent.

When you lock your doors, you automatically set the alarms. At least that is what I have been told. The little red LED should make the auto thief think twice before breaking into your car.... these folks prefer un alarmed vehicles.... adding a "Security by Smith & Wesson" stickers can be useful.
