06 V6 - Turn Signal/Hazards not working

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here so I hope I don't make a mess of it. i would appreciate any advice you guys can provide me based on the following symptoms:

Turn signals are not working. There is no clicking noise and no dash indicator lights. Exterior lights are also not lighting up.
Hazard signal is not working. There is no clicking noise and no dash indicator lights. Exterior lights are also not lighting up.

Fuses seem fine. I checked the interior fusebox and #23 (hazard switch, hazard relay) and #26 (hazard switch) are both in good condition. Please note that while the manual lists one of them as "hazard switch, hazard relay" the panel of the fusebox labels it as the "turn signal". I've tried switching them out with spares and other fuses (same amps) to test, just in case.

Curious thing.. if I unlock or lock the car with the Remote, the amber lights will flash. These are the same bulbs used for turn/hazard, right?

My car has no modifications.

I thought it might be the Hazard Relay but since there aren't any in stock nearby me I wanted to reach out to you and see if I'm barking up the wrong tree before I sit on my hands for a week to receive the part.

Thanks in advance!

No, it can't be a faulty hazard relay if the lights flash when you operate the remote. It's the hazard relay that makes them flash.

You problem is more likely to be the flasher relay. That's mounted up behind the dashboard on the driver's side somewhere...photo below

Autospark, thank you for responding! Could you confirm the part # or a generic equivalent I can put in there? I found a few possibilities on Ebay, Autozone etc (haven't called service department yet because..) but every option I see is not in stock and will take some time to get to me. I was hoping to find an option I can pick up or Amazon quickly. I think the OEM part is 955503K100, but I've also found the following:

PartsGeek has "standard Hazard Warning and Turn Signal Flasher" with part # 18621-05579871

EBay has BWD FC681

Autozone has a slew of Novita products but doesn't tell me which one in particular to get. I see EL13A2, EG22, EG23 and EL13A1 that all have 3 prongs.

Amazon doesn't have Novita, but does have similar model #'s under the name Tridon, even though the photo shows "novita". Amazon's usually useful method of searching for items that fit a specific vehicle turns up a "CEC industries EF54".

Finally........is this a plug and play type of fix or do I need to do anything more complex ?

Either the Tridon EP34 from Amazon or the Novita EP34 from Autozone should work.

Well, we're only assuming at this point that it is the flasher relay that's faulty. If that's the case it should be a straight forward plug 'n' play fix.

Hey, the product arrived and it was in a Novita box with a Novita sticker on it.. so that's good. I'm no electrician so I tried to compare the marking on each unit and saw the following:

OEM:
95550-3K100
12V 85C/M
T/SIG(W)
32(28)+27+1.2
21x2+5+1.2
Hazard (w)
[32(28)+27+1+1.2]x2+1.2
[21x2+5+1.2]x2

Novita EP34:
DOT APPROVED
2x27W+5W
4x27W
MAX 6 LAMPS
SAE J945, J590
FMVSS 108

I don't know if this means they are comparable items or not. I was very tired so I did something dumb and just swapped them out anyway. So far, they turn signals and hazard button work.

Hopefully one of you reads this tonight or early tomorrow morning and let's me know whether I should unplug the Novita or keep it in.

THanks again!

FWIW, Autozone's website says it doesn't fit my vehicle and Amazon didn't show it as a result when I searched for compatible components with the 2006 sonata v6. They're also not exactly the same size (Novita is slightly smaller).

Well, the turn signals and hazards are working so I say keep it in

The T/SIG (W) markings "21x2+5+1.2" is the arrangement and power of the lamps the relay is designed to work with. In this case (2X) 21Watt main turn signal bulbs + (1X) 5W side repeater lamp + (1X) 1.2W instrument cluster tell tail lamp.

The HAZARD (W) markings "[21x2+5+1.2]x2" basically means it can power all of the above X2 because obviously both sides are operating when the hazard lamps are on.

It looks like the EP34 exceeds the capacity of the original relay, being able to handle (2X)27W + 5W side repeater.

Once you change to LED bulbs, this new piece should help avoid hyper flashing as well.
So I would say, keep it.

Not planning to do an LED upgrade right now, but I am considering buying the Philips H7 CrystalVision Ultra bulbs for the lowbeams. The packaging says 12v 55w.. is that fine for an 06 sonata? I dont think i'm using any special lowbeams bulbs right now, just a basic Sylvania pair. I'm hoping for a nice upgrade in visibility without looking obnoxious or blinding anyone..nor modifying the car at this time.
