I think they have to have some kind of power to light up white and then another signal that comes when your engage your turn signal that tells them to go amber.
I want to get switchbacks but if they aren't going to provide a running white to amber functionality I see no point.
except i went the cheap route and did not bother with the relays. I like them, when they are white, they are not the same hue as my 10k hids obviously, but they dont have that xenon led white either, theyr just sort of a bland white, i can upload a video of mine later on in the day for you...
but i think to answer your question, when they turn amber for the turn signal, they remain blinking with that amber color and dont switch back to white until youve switched off your turn signal.
My Point and Question was that will a proper Switchback LED work as it is supposed to (Always on and white until a turn signal or hazard is engaged then it blinks amber) in an NF Sonata.
I posted the same information as in my first post to Diode Dynamics, Here is the back and forth.
They're Response "The two videos show two different types of bulbs, it is not related to the vehicle.
Our bulbs work like the first video, in Amber/Off turn signal mode. Cheaper bulbs without built-in controllers work like the second video, Amber/White while blinking. The controller make the white stay off when the turn signal is blinking. Our switchback bulbs in an NF sonata would work like the first video."
Me: "so it is up to the canbus controller to tell it to stay white until the turn signal is given. but what tells the controller, or rather provides power that lights it up white constantly until told otherwise?"
Them: "It's not canbus, but rather an independent microcontroller built into the bulb that controls this function. It keeps white off when it gets the turn signal / amber power. Correct, it has nothing to do with the vehicle."

Thanks BI, the Video answers my question exactly. Awesome.
I have switch backs I got vleds one going strong after a year. Mine are white when lit and blink orange when the turn signal is put on. Check out vleds.com there on sale normally 50 on sale for 25
Dumb question but when you are installing the switchbacks are you having to modify anything besides the flasher or just installing the new bulbs? The reason I ask is currently when I turn my parking lights on my bulb where the switchbacks will replace is not lit. It only comes on when the turn signal is blinking. What provides the switchbacks the signal to light up when in parking light mode?
What year is your car ( i assume 09 due to your name)? 09-10 have a different light setup than the 06-08 and the parking light is separate from the turn signal switch and backs wont work.
Thanks, that's what I was afraid you were going to say. Hyundai seems to have gone out of their way to make the lighting on the 09-10 Sonata difficult. The headlight assembly screams for angel eyes/halos and led/switchbacks as DR'S but you are so limited because of the way the assembly is wired.
If you are looking for plug and play then yes it is not setup in a manner that you can do this. I put LED halos in my car and its an 09. It wouldnt that difficult to wire switch backs you just need to tap into the wiring harness and connect the lights appropriately. When i did my halos i had to take the whole light assembly apart. Its not hard to to you just need to plan ahead and you would be able to this in an afternoon.
Greetings, Has anyone had success finding an electronic flasher for the '09-'10 Sonatas after installing LED's? Up to 2008 the Novita EP34 works but the flasher changes for the final 2 years of the NF model. Still mounted under the dash but it has many more than the 3 spade connectors on the EP34 and they are a pin style over the spade. I've gone to the site and there are possibilities available.
I would love to install the flasher rather than the resistors... but push comes to shove... Let me know what you have found out in your quests and I will tell what I find! Thanks in advance!
Impressive. I'm always iffy with aftermarket LEDs for headlights. They seem like they won't last. I'm planning on opening my headlights again to install some new LED Modules. I hope they won't give me problems. I'm getting them shipped from Korea (If NF drivers from Korea use these LEDs...they must be good)
Just make sure the LEDs are rated to take the 14 + volts the alternator puts out when the car is running, 12v leds may burn up after awhile. I put a led driver that regulates the voltage to 12 volts to avoid this. I got the driver on ebay dont remember what seller. If i ever open up the head lights again i would probably paint the chrome bezel back and add a strip of daytime running lights to the parking lights. they also make halos with a orange ring that you could add to blink with the turn signals
That's why Im opening up my lights. I want to add led blinkers with switchback. Also I want to take out the cheap LEDs strip that I used in the parking lights for DRL. I might have to look into 14+ volts. Thanks
Quick question question guys...is this the flasher to be swapped out when doing led switchback...it wasn;t very evident and had to hunt down for it.
When i swapped it out to this below....AAP guy told me this one would handle more stuff if I want to add led mirror and that thing behind the mirror (which I will do).
THing is, when I popped this in, none of the blinkers nor hazard work. Should I just get the 34 mentioned on this thread? Or maybe it';s a defective unit?
To confirm, you do have to get EP34 if you're going with this Novita flasher. I guess it doesn't give it enought juice to heat up if you're using Ep36.
Just popped in the EP34 and it blinks more normally. A fraction faster than oem, or maybe it's just in my head. But hyper flash is gone.
On some sites you can get 2 types of switchbacks usually type A will alternate from amber and off for turn signals and type B will alternate from amber to white for the turn signals.
