2006 Sonata LX V6 - Front Passenger Suspension - Clunking/Thunking over bumps / Holes
Hello, I wanted to get some feedback from fellow 2006 Sonata LX V6 drivers who have had issues with their front suspension clunking / Thunking over bumps greater than 6 inches or bigger holes.
I recently bought this Sonata used at about 92k miles from a private seller, they didn't have much information on the maintenance performed on the vehicle, while test driving it on the streets it sounded like everything is normal and the suspension handled normally, there was only an occasional thump (very mild) and i thought the bump or the hole was big enough and would have caused that on any car.
Now that i bought it and drove it for a week the thunk / clunk is more prominent on any bump that is small/steep, bigger than 6 inches and a bigger hole or driving on a freeway and going over a dip etc. I am not sure if the struts were replaced anytime in the past history of the car and when going over the bumps the suspension feels a little mushy and makes a creaking sound like a spring would 2-3 times when going over a bump.
I know other owners of the same car have had issues with the front suspension and have tried various items to fix the issue. i would like to get some feedback from them to cure the issue. i plan on taking it a local mechanic but i want to have a good understanding on what seems to fix the problem rather than mechanic going crazy with replacement of unwanted parts that wont fix the issue.
The options i have seen so far are replacement of
1) Front Passenger Struts with OE REPLACEMENTS ( Monroe or KY )
2) Strut Mounts
3) Stabilizer Bar Bushings
4) Any other bushings (suggest which ones, i had a similar issue with an old 1997 Altima and replacement of struts didn't solve the issue back then so i think this is either bushings gone bad or a combination with struts since they had a history if bad struts right from the factory when new)
OR any other part that seem to have fixed the issue.
I would greatly appreciate some feedback. i like the ride and power that the car has and bought it based on the test drive.
