3.3 steering loss been tracked back to the crank pulley seperation.. you may need to actually remove the drive belt, and remove the pulley.. look at aluminum cover and back side of pulley for rubbing/drag marks..

P/S bottle not been common issue, especially with the fact that the 3.3 Sonata has synthetic fluid in it (green stinky PSF-4),, which by the way is available in qts from KIA.. my parts fella says the number valid in Hyundai system, so you can order at Hyundai also,, if no KIA delaer local.. $30.87/qt

Yes, the reverse flush cleaned the system including the screen. There was a TSB about this.

And, from what I understand, the harmonic balancer is the same thing as the crank pulley. The harmonic balancer is a crank pulley with a rubber ring inside of it to absorb vibration. The rubber ring is what fails. I had this replaced as well as the belt. It did not solve the problem.

I have a similar issue run a simple test

With the engine running try to turn the steering wheel at idle then bring the rpm to 2000 (at 2000 rpm my power steering cuts out) if that's what's happening to you, you will need to replace your pump it is not holding high pressure.

I have a great mechanic that has a very expensive snap-on computer he was able to diagnose the problem right away. The pressure on the pump dropped off at 2000 rpm

Hi Rick, I have 165k on my Sonata and am experiencing the same problems you were. Mechanic unable to replicate. He said the entire power steering line needed to be replaced at a price of $582. Wondering if what you mentioned here solved the problem for good for you? Thank you!
