Smile Is Canister Close Valve and Canister Purge Valve the same thing?

Hi guys,

My car is 2008 Sonata GLS 2.4, 75000 miles.

My check engine light was on and I drove it to a local official Hyundai dealer. They told my the Canister Close Valve needs to be replaced. There is a number on the worksheet just below the part's name which seems to be the part number, 31453-3K700.

I checked with Advance Auto Parts. They said they don't have Canister Close Valve, but they do have Canister Purge Valve. Are Canister Close Valve and Canister Purge Valve the same thing?

Thank you very much!!!

This is a dealer only part.

I've used this website before.

Hyundai Parts | Hyundai Parts Online by Delray Hyundai

It looks like the part number has been superseded. That must have just happened. I ordered one recently and I think it was the old part number. I assume they somehow updated the part. I wish I would have got the new one.

Hi stephen9666, Thank you for the post. It's super helpful!!! I think I will order this part from this website as well. How do you install this part? By your self? But I don't think I can do it by my self. Do you have any suggestions?

It is strange:

On the website, I found the part number of "CANISTER CLOSE VALVE" is 3143029200. But the Hyundai dealer told me the part number is 31453-3K700. What's wrong?

Part Number 3143029200
Part Name CANISTER CLOSE VALVE
MSRP $53.79
Core $0.00
Online Price $43.03

Seems 3143029200 is not compatible with 2008 Sonata GLS 2.4L. But the part name of 31453-3K700 and 314533K500 seems not be Canister Close Valve, but is something like "FILTER ASSY-AIR " or "Shut-off valve 2.4 LITER"......

This link may help you. Even though it's sometimes called a "filter," the part in question is actually a shut-off valve.

http://www.amdmaddness.com/sonata/ts...kairfilter.pdf

Also, I think I was incorrect when I said the part number was recently updated. The link above has the newer part number, which I think is the one I received recently.

So, the part number they gave you (31453-3K700) has been replaced by the part number in the link above (314533K500). So, if the part number they gave you is the part you need, than 314533K500 should be correct, regardless of differences in what people want to call it.

In this link, that same part is called a "shut off valve."

Here's another website with good schematics

Also, if you're getting ready to order, you may want to call a dealer before ordering a part. Hyundai OEM parts had to call me back after I placed my order online. Their catalog led me to an incorrect part. They discovered it when they typed in my VIN. The woman said it's a generic catalog that isn't correct for every situation, so they have to confirm all part orders with the VIN number.

Confusing, yes.
