In need of a how-to instruction on rear door handle replacement

Hey folks,

Both outside door handles broke of my gf's 2006 sonata. I've been able to find instructions on replacing the fronts, but the rear look different.

I've popped off the rubber plugs and looked inside, but not sure I know what I'm looking at...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! (Pics would be extra nice)

Thanks y'all!!

thanks. checked out the hmaservice.com and below is the "step by step" instruction they had;

OUT SIDE HANDLE REPLACEMENT
1.Remove the rear door trim.
2.Remove the glass.
3.Remove inside handle.
4.After disconnecting the cover (A), remove the outside handle base(.

5.Remove rear door module.
6.Installation is the reverse of removal.

Don't have any pics, but the problem is easy to describe.

I'm trying to install new handles (item B on post #5) on a 2006 sonata rear doors.

Thanks

Sonata rear door handle fix

OK--first of all "hmaservice" instructions on how to do this BLOW--and are WRONG. Here's the 5 minute correct and EASY way to do this:
1. Find 1" black rubber access hole cover that is directly behind (inside door) the stationary butt piece of the outside handle.
2. Remove the rubber cover and you will see access to the bolt holding the stationary butt piece to the outside of the door.
3. Use a 8mm socket with extender to "loosen" enough the remove the butt piece. No need to take it all the way out plus you run risk of dropping it into door frame--believe me you DON'T want that to happen.
4. Take the new handle and slide it into the now exposed opening from whence the butt piece came out and push forward.
Replace butt piece, reverse directions above to finish.
NO removing of inside door handle, NO removing of door panel, NO removal of glass--ALL these steps were in the hma service procedure.

Hopefully this will save anyone the headache of having to replace the rear door handles--enjoy!

Woodie is absolutely right. You can also see the following link to see photos of what woodie is talking about.
'07 Sonata Door Handle Replacment

The easiest way to solve the risk of dropping the screw is to use the milk carton. Cut the milk carton into a 1.25 inch strip, roll it to its side, and slide it to all the way in. This way even if you drop the screw, the milk carton will prevent it dropping down. the Milk carton is flex enough to be shaped into a half circle and hard enough to hold the screw.

Another tip that I have for you is to look for a used part. At least for NF Sonata (2006-2010), the new handles come not painted and need to be painted to match the body color. I ordered one for $30, but was told that it costed $90+ to paint. When you are looking for a used handle, you can use any outside door handle to replace any other outside handle. I used Front RH Handle (passenger side) to replace Rear LH Handle. In addition, door handles are also interchangeable among NF sonatas.
Hope this helps.
