Has anyone else had this issue?

I have an 09 Sonata I purchased 7/31. The radio is being replaced due to bad tuning control knobs but I am also having an issue with my dash lights. In the beginning I only noticed this with the lights in AUTO mode. There were several times I would start the car and the headlights would come on but the dash lighting would not.

When the service tech inspected the car he could not make it act up. Yesterday it acted up and I went to the dealer this morning and he saw it wasn't working everytime the lights were turned on. He's going to order a new switch.

This evening the problem is worse. Now every time I turn on my lights the dash lights do not turn on. If I sit there and slowly turn the lights on I hear a relay click and I see the dash lights flash quickly. After a couple of times I have been able to get the lights on. This is every interior light that would come on with the lights turned on, the dash, stereo, a/c controls and glove compartment light.

I am starting to wonder if this is actually a switch problem, or possibly a relay that is crap.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with their 2009 Sonata?

Overall I really like this car and I am just curious if someone else had this issue and what the problem was. Would give me information to point the service department to.

Dealership has determined it's a defective switch. So I guess I'll get it resolved next week once the new part comes in.

It is very possible that there is a bad contact inside the multi-function switch, which it seems your dealer is suggesting. If this doesn't work, it's possible it could be a relay, but very unlikely. There is no relay that controls only the lighting of the various modules you're having trouble with. The only lighting relays are related to the external lights, overhead interior lights and glove compartment light.

Car is fixed. I picked it back up Wednesday. The problem appears to be the fuse block. I was told for some reason Hyundai built relays into the block. If they go bad the whole box has to be replaced. In the process the light switch as well as my stereo had to be replaced.

Car is driving and doing what I expect of it and I'm enjoying having all my functions at my fingertips

Don't know why Hyundia didn't make it where you could replace the modules in the fuse block without having to replace the whole piece. That seems dumb.
