am not looking at this turning into a legal discussion but i have a couple of questions in regards to if anyone has fitted their 14 elantra limited (projectors) with a HID kit yet. If you have here are a couple of questions:
since the kit i am ordering already comes with the relays i am not worried about that.
does anyone know if the 14 elantra limited is a CANBUS system or not, i am asking because if it is i will have to swap the wires
did you have to use a capacitor inline at all to keep them from flickering or from a light on your dash.
Just want to share the email I got from The Retrofit Source about this matter
Hi Bryan
Thanks for the reply! It's my understanding Hyundai went to an H11B projector (they may call it otherwise, but only in reference to halogen bulbs) for 2014. You can confirm this by watching this video and comparing the stock projectors:
The kit would be the H11 Elite HID system seen here with the HD Relay harness:
I know the interior lights are not CAN BUS. Not sure if thats any indication of the headlights though. I have a set of HIDs Ill be installing this week, hopefully. Also, I plan on disabling my DRLs which will be nice. Im only putting HIDs in the low beam...
Am I the only one who has retained DRL function with HID's installed? I turn my HID's off DRL turn on, I even keep my HID's in the on position at all times and don't have a issue. Lights stay on after I exit the vehicle, I press the lock button they immediately turn off. Now I now I may have different headlights, and it doesn't directly pertain to the OP's question but I've gotten so many questions on how I get mine to work the way they do. In general I had the same guy do HID's on 4 Lantra's now crossing all versions with the same result as mine, having a good installer is absolutely paramount to proper HID's on this car.
Also I chose to keep the DRL function but I could have disabled them all together. I wonder how everyone is installing their kits. If you're not splicing directly into the wiring then that's the problem. Also every single Elantra he's done needed a CANBUS, all, no exception, especially the fogs.
Mine work the same way and I did not splice into any wires. All plug n play. Now mine don't turn off immediately shut off when I press the lock button (on remote. Might have double tap button.) but will after 1 min after pressing the lock button (on remote).
I would have to double check the lock button in the car but I think they don't shut off that way, and for that reason I just turn them off and on so I don't risk the battery.
Ah okay, I'm wondering if it's the Limited model, there must be differences. If mine weren't spliced I'd lose my DRL, even though I don't use them I wanted to retain their function (in case I lose a HID lamp), yes I'm that picky! lol I want only my HID's on at all times. I hate hate hate the look of standard halogen.
Quick question: limited & sport comes with the projectors in the housings, could I install projectors on the se's stock halogen housings () or I'm down to pay $800 - $1,000 for new ones?
Note this is my first time installing HIDs, so I'm pretty much clueless.

Whatever you want to do can be done. To add HID projectors requires taking the housing apart but there are projectors that fit and some that can be made to fit. You may find it costs the same either way.
There is quite a bit of info on this board and if you search use Louiceman poster's name in the advanced search.
SE's stock halogens are H11 (I took the bulbs out and tested the H11 HIDs today) But honestly, I don't want to do a half-.... job so I'll be ordering projectors.
you probably will need to modify wiring, but it is quite easy.....I am also keeping my eyes on these new headlights, but thinking of changing car shortly and get coupe....
Not saying you are wrong about the modifying part, but then if he does any modification to his wiring to get the headlights to work, he's done voided his warranty on the wiring.
Well I pulled the trigger and purchased a morimoto 9005 kit with caplinks from the retro source. They came yesterday, I have to say the kit is top notch but their instructions are crap. When you get the kit you get: 2 ballasts, 2 sets of bulbs, huge relay bundle with 1 caplink attached and a secondary caplink. Problem is they send no directions no nothing. Yes they are all on their site but nothing that shows your particular kit of how it should be wired. I had to basically piece it together and got it working. It looks great but they need serious documentation help.
Just adjust those bad boys lower so they're not in peoples faces. Since I've done that I haven't gotten any flashing from other motorists. As a matter of fact I was behind both Toronto Police and O.P.P. for extended periods of time at night and never had an issue.
why would they do it? I used to drive behind them even with JDM headlights used the HID, LED bar top installed in full power etc... and no issues whatsoever. They won't stop you, simply because they can not check how properly your lights are etc...you must know your rights if you are behind the wheels.
Can't do it in Massachusetts. If they realize the headlights are not the ones that came with the car it's a hefty fine. Matter of fact, you can't do ANYTHING with your car in Mass. Shoot, I'm even afraid to just drive it in this state!
Quick question. Anyone use a TRS HD Relay on their elantra? Im trying to find a place to mount the relay with the wires pointing downwards (as instructed) but not sure where.
Hey guys let's not let things get out of hand. If your recent post is gone I deleted it. I welcome you to continue the discussion where it left off but to be more civil. If not I haven't given anyone a week or two off for a while.
