I have 2011 Elantra Limited. for months now when first started engine taps, like a valve tap, this disappears after engine is warm. first I was told it was aftermarket oil filter. then I was told it was cam phasers/lifters. still at dealer and they are unsure at this point. anyone else experience this?
The filter is known to be one cause alright. Changing to an OEM Hyundai filter is a good idea, and synthetic quiets these engines down even more from my personal experience.
well, my dealer has acknowledged that even though it goes away after warming up, it is not normal. so i'll be getting a new engine under warranty to fix the problem. I'm ok with that!
It must have been a well pronounced tap for them to justify engine replacement. Mine does this at start up but not really loud enough for it to be a problem and disappears after 30 seconds literally.I have had many vehicles and most all of them tapped at start up and went away. Anyway congrats on the new elantra heart replacement
All of these cars make some startup clatter so they must have found a serious issue. Glad to hear it's being covered under warranty.
