Hey guys, this noise just started in my elantra. It only makes the noise when slowing down, brakes or no brakes. FYI it has winter tires on but this is a new noise. Sounds like a chu-chu-chu-chu. Tried to video the best i could, may have to turn up, sorry for the blinker.
wheel bearing is much louder and gives the car a slight pulsation when accelerating like getting onto the highway then goes away after a while. The turn signal was louder than anything but it sounds like the tires might be un evenly worn causing weird tread noise
They are winter tires and always had that hum noise but the steam engine sound is new. The tires and wheels were brand new from tire rack and to date have less than 500 miles on them, so it shouldnt sound like that yet should it? The car itself has less than 2000 miles.
If it was a wheel bearing noise, the noise gets louder as the wheel spins faster, and goes away as the wheel slows down. If it gets really bad the noise will sound like a helicopter taking off. Hopes thos helps a little
Possibility. Slightly stuck caliper or e-brake maybe or warped rotor, maybe one caused the other. Any vibration when you are braking? If the tire shop over-torqued the wheels it could cause rotor warping too.
Could loose lug nuts cause that sound? I just went to see how tight they were in the front and I could basically turn them with my fingers. Now the sound is gone
I'm now 99% sure the sound you heard was the wheel wobbling as they spun causing it to un evenly make contact with the rotors. I was once on the highway and saw some guy in a BMW, his front wheel bolts were so loose that the car was wobbling sure enough the lug nuts loosend and the bolts snapped, the car dipped forward the wheel came flying off and the beamer was damaged quite a bit. Nobody got hurt thankfully, your quite lucky my friend
Ugh I hate that sound.. I had the exact same sound on my 2000 Grand Am. Had it looked at lots of times and no one could ever get it to go away.. My best guess would be a warped rotor "but this would cause pulsating" or a stuck caliper.. If you find out what the issue is be sure to post back.
The dealer balanced my wheels recently. Two days ago, I noticed a lug nut was missing. I checked the other 19 with a torque wrench and they were fine, and a return trip to dealer resulted in apologies and the missing nut being replaced.
As my former boss used to say, "It doesn't cost extra to pay attention."
Glad you found your issue, and you're lucky nothing catastrophic occurred.
