I'm enjoying the new (to me) Elantra I just picked up with 48,000 miles. It is fun to drive and I enjoy the manual transmission. I just can't really abide by an automatic transmission.

I've been reading the long discussion about the Eco mode and whether it impacts the mileage and acceleration -- apparently the jury is still out on that. I haven't driven enough to have an opinion. I like good mileage so I leave it on.

I upgraded from a 2008 Focus which I enjoyed but is not in the same class really. I enjoyed that car but it certainly wasn't built to the same quality.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and if there's anything you all think I should know about the car that I couldn't get from perusing the manual.

Welcome!

I've enjoyed 7k miles so far on my '14 with an MT. As far as the Eco mode, it feels like you're towing a trailer. I ran it for the first 1k or so and haven't turned it back on. My MPG has stabilized now that she (and I) has broken in. Might be time for me to test again...

I never use the eco mode on my 6 speed because it just prompts you when to shift, it doesn't put your car in eco mode like the AT's. Besdies, I think its not a safe practice to be constantly looking at your dash display to see when to shift.

These days AT technology is very efficient so manual trannys are not a big advantage for better mileage anymore... but they are more fun! IMO
