The ECU is programmed to switch to 2nd gear automatically passed 5500RPM.
So basically get used to not shift the first gear and it'll do it itself then shift the 2nd to 3rd, etc...
I was shocked by this the first time.
it not supposed to upshift with gear skipping.
One question though - how long it takes for PCM to upshift after you select higher gear?
I noticed in my Rondo one thing (it takes about 500-800 ms for transmission to react).
So, when I am trying to rev it near redline, and then upshift, I end up with upshit instead. The rev limiter kicks in, although not supposed to, and not much, but noticeably lowers power during upshift.
Hence, I select to upshift from 1st at about 4.5k RPM. This way within the next 0.5 second the revs will go higher, but the shift will take place like I want to.
Of course due to ECU/PCM you will not feel the "jump", it is always smooth upshift... not like M/T on Elantra. PCM will not tell me when to upshift and what gear to select. No upshit here.
