I have seen one Volt. It was on the Chevy dealer's showroom. Gorgeous thing. Had a window sticker of $46,000. I asked the salesman how long it had been there. He replied, "About 4 months." Elantra's are doing good if they stay on the lot 4 days! I bought Ingrid off the truck four hours after she arrived! LOL

Very good question ; it was a manual flap that directed where the carburetor intake air was drawn from. IIRRC it was straight fresh cold air , or slightly warmed air that was rerouted from around the exhaust manifold.
This was to prevent carb icing which caused driveability issues ; Solex (Volkswagon) carbs used heat tracing elements, US vehicles had some kind of automatic vacuum switch/heat sensor. Fuel injection made this issue disappear.

I grew up in a house with an 84,85 and 86 Pony in the driveway; crude but reliable transportation. I have owned over half a dozen Hyundai vehicles with well over one million miles traveled in total. I guess that makes me an old dude. FTW.

Our first Hyundai was the wife's 2008 Tucson. Loved that car! The overall quality and mechanically-free service made me think outside the box. So, I bought a 2011 Elentra Limited. Wife later traded for a new 2012 Tucson. Also an unbelievably nice vehicle for the price paid. My 2011 ran up 26,000+ miles in 15 months. I traded it in on a 2013.

Not sure we are H4L'ers, but it's not a bad start. I suppose the only thing missing, so far, is HyundaiUSA putting our phone number on their speed dial list.

Actually, flew to Virginia and drove the 2011 home to Oklahoma. Right thru your back yard, LOL. Also made 2 round trips to Virginia in it. Add that to a 52 mile round tripper 5 days a week and it adds up in a hurry. The 2011 never saw the inside of a service bay. Someone got the "Used Car of a Lifetime," when they bought her!

Dealer didn't even detail her. Went straight to the sale lot. Carpets over the floor mats insured shoes nor feet ever touched the inside. She was "showroom!"

This is my first Hyundai and I love it. We were casually new car shopping and narrowed it down between the Elantra and the Optima. Of course the Elantra was the better deal. Then my previous car went down in a fiery inferno so it expedited the process and I had to get a new car immediately. Atleast we already knew what was decided upon.

Agreed, children will be in the distant, distant, distant unforeseeable future. Although some of you have posted pics of the cutest ones.

First time car buyer and Hyundai owner. I don't think I would buy another Hyundai again although it may be premature to say. But unless they fix their fuel economy issues or bring their diesel engines to North America I wouldn't recommend the brand to anyone who really cares about gas mileage.
