Cost of cabin filter

Hello everyone,

How much does a cabin filter in the states cost? I live near the border and will be driving to Seattle sometime soon. I can always pass by a Hyundai dealership and pick one up. Here in Canada, they are charging 35-43 dollars for a cabin filter for my 2012 elantra. Thanks in advance.

Also, while I am at it, asides from an easy cabin filter change, are there any other easy to do repair parts that I should pick up?

Thanks again.

Depends on how bad the part dept wants to milk your wallet beyond MSRP.. I think we at $17-20... I would have to look it up in the morning to get more accurate price

Funny you bring this up. While sitting in the service waiting room this morning, the service writer comes in holding the air and cabin filters for this student's car. Stated that they needed changing. $45 for the air filter and $32 for the cabin air filter, installed. Kid says, "Okay!" I'm surprised I didn't go into cardiac arrest. Oh, well.

I just looked up the cost of the filters for my Elantra at Auto Zone Parts Store.
The Air Filter runs $14.99 and the Cabin Filter runs $18.99 in my area. May not be OEM parts by I can change them twice for the price that dealer wants for one.
I will change them myself for those prices.

I tend to use OEM for cabin and engine air filters, especially if the car is under warranty. A lot of aftermarket stuff simply doesn't fit very well.

List US price for the cabin air filter is $20 and you can buy it online for $15. Some dealers do markup beyond MSRP, so it pays to do a little shopping. A dealer willing to install it for an extra $12 is being pretty fair.

Shop online as well. I found both the air and cabin filter for my Accent for about half what the local parts stores wanted for them.

My dealership wants $69.95 to replace the cabin filter. I bought mine, a TYC brand, online at Amazon (quality seemed identical to the OEM filter I replaced) for $9. The labor was literally ten minutes even for my non-mechanically inclined arthritic hands.

They want $29.95 to replace the engine air filter. I got a Fram filter at Amazon (actually seemed sturdier than OEM with a wire mesh top) for $6.50 it didn't take me five minutes including dragging the vacuum over and cleaning out the bottom of the air-box.

There's not a lot I'm capable of doing on my car anymore these days but those two tasks were simple and I saved myself over $80 over the dealer cost.

Lest we not forget the dealer's cost was probably $6. $14 profit, $12 to install. $26 for 4 minutes work. That's a good gig if you can get it!

Typically dealer cost is about half of list, so that's $10, not $6. And four minutes is not a realistic shop time for changing a filter like this, especially considering that there is some overhead just getting the car in/out of the shop, doing work orders, etc.

I'll stand by my original assessment - $32 all-up cost to install a $20 list cabin air filter is reasonable and fair.
