2013 Elantra GLS--Just so you know on the front end

I have just owned my new 2013 Elantra GLS for a little over a week and so far, so good. Love how it zips around corners (compared to my former Highlander :O)) If you are a potential buyer, just thought you might want to be aware of a few interesting things:

If you want a white Elantra GLS, it only comes with the tan interior I wanted gray.

The car does not come with a spare tire, but you can buy one at an extra cost. I negotiated it in my purchase price.

Yes, the vehicle comes with Roadside Assistance for five years (I think), but know up front that it only covers two assists each year and after that, the cost is yours.

Had read about the tire quality and noise issues, so I asked the salesperson about what the expected life of the tires were and he said that he didn't know, so I asked the service manager. The answer is about 25,000 miles

With only 400 miles on my new Elantra, I would recommend it and also the St. Augustine, Fl dealership. They wash and vacuum out the car after each service visit Love that!

Welcome to the forum! Glad you like your car. Regarding tires I replaced my stock Hankook around 25k but I drove lots of city and commuting and lived in hot dry Texas at the time. Others are getting better mileage.

bravesoul! Sorry you couldn't get the grey interior. While I generally like tan interiors, and my current car has somewhat of a "bone" colored interior, my Elantra had grey interior and I loved it. The tan interior on the Elantra never quite "did it" for me, although it does look nice on the red Elantras.

Great negotiating skills on the spare tire! I stupidly didn't realize there wasn't a spare until I got home, of course. Bought my Elantra at the very end of a long day of car searching, so things were a bit rushed. Got a good deal on it, though.

Didn't have it long enough to replace the tires, but I had the Contis, and they were not good for road noise.

Fashionista.

Sounds familiar, I too dealt well into the evening after closing. Didn't you just do the same thing again this time? Old habits never die!

Sucks for you because here in Canada a white Elantra gets a gray interior and a complete spare tire kit. BTW, welcome to the forum!!

Funny,

The Genuine Hyundai Spare Tire Kit comes with a 4 page set of instructions for the dealer. At the bottom of the first page it clearly instructs the dealer to present the mobility kit and Styrofoam organizer to the owner. "Dealer must directly hand the vehicles tire mobility kit and organizer to the vehicle owner. Do not leave the tire mobility kit and organizer in the trunk." Must be some kind of liability thing.

The kit also contains a new door jamb tire information sticker that should be replaced as well. The new sticker contains the tire and inflation pressure for the spare tire as well as the other tires.

bravesoul,

Welcome to the forum. Lot's of good information about the Elantra here. I too purchased my 2013 Elantra GLS from the Hyundai Dealer in St. Augustine and I would also recommend them without hesitation.

Yes they left out there was sealant in the trunk and the fact there was no tire. It was because of my research.

Haha, well this time, it was daytime when we started out, but since we were buying two cars, we were there for several hours and it got dark. With the Elantra, it was already dark when I began!

Yep, Someguy is right. They should come standard with the sealant. I suppose that would come in handy if you ran over a screw or something, but if you had a blow-out...good luck!

Fashionista.
