2013 elantra mpg

There is roughly 800 on the odometer and I was averaging around 35 mpg. I filled it up and driving home afterwards I noticed the mpg drop off significantly. Now I'm lucky to get get 27. It was as low as 16 on the trip computer. The range was the same and the miles come off in sync with the odometer. I'm wondering if its a glitch with the trip computer? Did this happen to anyone else?

We have quite a few discussions on mpg going on in the md elantra section of the forum. I will move this post there later when Im back on pc. Right now the car is still breaking in and you are still getting used to it. Give it a few more tanks, in the meantime take it nice and easy on the gas pedal and brakes.

Keep us updated.....I'm having the same issue. Brand new 2013 Coupe.......100 miles on the odometer and its only reading 19 mpg's despite me taking it easy on the accelerator (city driving....but still). I'm freaking out.

I just find it odd that it happened right after a fill up. I've been watching the odometer and the range and they are in sync. When i filled up i had a range in the high 300's like usual. Im thinking its a glitch with the computer

Finally moving this thread to MD Elantra section. Basically the computer is just guessing and it resets average mpg right after a fill up so it can show really low or high numbers after the first few miles of driving. It typically takes about 75 miles of similar driving to level off the numbers for that tank for me. Range is never really accurate until you are nearly out of gas so I ignore it.

Forget the computer calculation for MPG. Meaningless, and usually high.

Miles driven / gallons of gas = MPG

Fill the tank and reset the "A" trip meter. Drive drive drive. When you next fill up, write down the number of miles traveled on your "A" trip meter, then reset it for the next tank. Read the gallons of gas you just put in from the pump or the receipt.

Perform the calculation. The electronic wizardry is meaningless in determining the true MPG.

Does anyone have the formula to convert from liters per hundred kilometres to mpg (imperial and US)?
