Angry 2012/2012 Trunk Opening and Seat Release Mechanism

I have been aggravated more than once by what will not fit through the "opening" of the 2011/2012 Elantra Limited. Beware buyer! Don't buy this car thinking you have lots of trunk space. Most luggage and small things will fit fine. That is about it. Ordinary size containers that you won't have any doubt about -- will not fit into the Elantra trunk. Yes the trunk appears to be roomy but three things will frustrate you.

1) The trunk opening (circumference) is very confining. I can get larger containers into my back door than I can fit through the opening of the trunk. Sadly, this makes me put things on nice leather seats that I would not ordinarily place there. Folks -- I am not talking about "big" items. You've been warned. 2) The seat release mechanism drops down about 4 inches into the trunk and this limits the sizes of what you can slide through the trunk onto the back seats. Hyundai should have recessed the seat release mechanism. Lastly -- the trunk lid hinges are disproportionately huge and swing way down inside the trunk -- again limiting your actual storage space.

I love my Elantra. Bought a 2011 and then a 2012! HATE THE TRUNK -- CONSTANT AGGRAVATION.

I haven't had any problems with fitting things in my trunk, and I do a lot of traveling.

Garage
Last weekend I had two ice chests, baby stroller, suitcase, dog food, and other random small items in my trunk. What are you trying to put in yours?

LOL, thanks I needed a laugh today.

You should contact member Eric Whiner, I think this is the one crucial design flaw he missed when putting together his list of Elantra short comings.

I was able to put my amplifier, pedal board case, microphone stand, guitar stand, my guitar case and a fold up dolly in my trunk and had room left over, in fact had to lay my amp down so that it would not move around. Standing up we have put another amp and another guitar case in the trunk....

I like big trunks and I cannot lie!

I fit my collapsable dog crate in there and that thing is huge!

Perspective, try putting things in it sometime.
