USB Flash Drive Recognizes Music But Won't Play

Hey everyone,

I know there have been a bunch of past threads in regards to getting music to play via USB but I couldn't find a thread with my exact problem. I had a flash drive with all my music on it which plays fine in my 2012 Elantra but it was quite bulky and the compartment door where the USB port it located wouldn't close when I had it plugged in. So I bought a more compact drive at Staples in hopes to solve the problem. Only now, the car recognizes that there is music on the drive and I can cycle through the songs but none of them will play! I tried doing a full FAT32 format and put the allocation size to 2048 bytes. I also put all the music in a folder names "Music" like some people mentioned. I am puzzled as to why the files are recognized and displayed but cannot be opened or played. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Garage
Some computer/electronic hardware is simply not compatible with other hardware. I ran into a similar issue a few years back with an aftermarket headunit with usb in a friends car that only liked certain brands of usb stick. He got super annoyed testing then we stuck my drive in and it worked right away. Is this a name brand usb drive or just a house brand? Perhaps you can return to store for a credit.

It's a verbatim flash drive. I wish I had kept my receipt/packaging but I threw it all out! Oh well...

As long as all files are located in folders - and preferably just one layer of folders - there's not much you can do except spend another eight bucks on a different usb stick.
