I was in rush hour this afternoon and when I stopped at a light a bird landed on my roof. It hopped around then started messing with the shark fin. When I started moving it flew off. I also got a good deal on a part from a guy on craigslist and found a route to work with less traffic than my usual way.

Today...no work!

Had a fiasco with the DMV when trying to renew my license. I called ahead to make sure I had all the right documents. Go down there. First, I find out that they only take cash or check, so I make a quick run to the bank to get cash. I come back, wait a bit, then get called up. Find out I have the wrong copy of my marriage license (not the gov't stamped copy!) So I go all the way home to get the right one, and I also have my ever-patient hubby come with me to bring a piece of mail for proof of address, since I cannot find any mail with my name on it. (I don't get much, and I'd thrown every shred away!) I was trying not to cry so I wouldn't look stupid in my picture. Turned out bad anyway!!!

Then I went to relax over food and drink with my friend. Made my night a lot better. Now I am at home cuddling with my hubby. My Elantra is outside, not getting to cuddle. :(

Not much, went to work as usual with my Elantra on a rainy day, I warmed up my butt with the heated seats.....it felt good. As the weather is getting colder it's getting hard to shift in first gear and I hate this. After work I must go to the store and I always enjoy driving my Elantra around town. It's a fun to drive car. ha well I am just saying stupid things.....lol have a good day to all of you.

I stopped at a light and saw the bird fly up to the car then heard him land on top front and walk all the way back then start pecking or something around the fin area. It was a large gray looking city bird.

Funny you should mention birds. On my way home last night it was overcast and approaching dusk so I had my headlights on. There was an instant where I was aware of something soft hitting the front of the grill. It was dark when I got home, but I could tell there was a little bird squished into the grill. This morning I saw the poor sparrow :(

Right when the economy crashed, Happy Valley actually had the highest rate of foreclosure in the state and one of the highest in the country. As a result of all that bad news, I began calling it 'Unhappy Valley'. However, I did catch the Street of Dreams on Scott's Summit back in '08...that was freaking awesome but for the most part, HV is Merriam-Webster's entry for 'suburbia'.

I got my permit at the now-closed Allen Boulevard location in '01, took the driving test at Sherwood in '03 but took my written at the Powell location.

Yeah, I live in the "Scott Mountain" neighborhood, which is mostly older homes. My house is older but remodeled.

Sounds like you grew up in the Portland Metro area. I was actually born in the PDX area, but I grew up in different towns around Oregon (La Grande area, Florence, Grants Pass). Then I went to Oregon State. After college, did 3 internships in Portland and never left. :)

silvergls, it's because the stupid camera takes 5 seconds before it snaps the picture. So, you're holding your awkward face for, like, 4 seconds, then at the 5th second, the face gets super awkward. Mine looks like I am a psycho.

Well, today my Elantra was nearly destroyed on my way home from school.

I had just left the parking lot at the same time as another student, and was driving next to her for about a block, until the first red light - I was turning right, and she was going straight.

The light immediately turned green as soon we got there, at which point she promptly took off, at the same time some guy on the opposite side of the road making a left turn apparently saw just saw the green and thought he got the arrow. I didn't see the guy turning, but because we both had our windows down, I heard the girl scream just as I was starting to turn, at which point I looked over and saw the crash happen. I think hearing her scream was almost worse than watching the actual crash

I dipped into the first parking lot after I turned to call 911, and to give myself a second to breathe. It took a minute, but they both got out of their cars and started screaming at each other, so I guess neither of them were seriously hurt, thankfully - despite that the front of both cars were about half their original size.

That is the closest I've been to a car crash, and it's terrifying. I dare not think about what would have happened to me had she not been in the way

Wow, glad you're OK! I can't imagine hearing someone scream like that, pretty terrifying. Glad the other people are OK, too.

I've had a couple of close calls, one last night. There is this street that goes to the back parking lot of my work where the employees park. I take a left turn onto said street, and it curves around to the left, so sometimes you can't see what's ahead until it's uncomfortably close. There are multiple restaurants around, and people often cross this street to the restaurants by Jay-walking because they're too lazy to go up to the end of the street to use the crosswalk. More than once at night, I've almost hit people crossing illegally like this. One guy flipped me off!

Last night, turning left onto the street, I curved around and right away there was this Toyota Camry trying to pull out in front of me. They saw me coming and just stopped in the middle of the oncoming lane! At the same time, there was a woman pushing a baby stroller, right in the middle of the **** road! She could have gotten hit by both me and the Camry. I was already too close and too fast of a speed to slam on my brakes, so I just kept going to avoid the idiocy.

I was pissed because I would feel terrible hitting a baby, and while it would have been that lady's fault, I probably would end up paying.

Just a couple funny observations of late.

It was in the evening and stopped at a light. A full size suv sits at my drivers door also waiting for the green light. For some reason I get a funny feeling and look over at the suv. The woman passenger is just staring and checking out my car the whole time. I felt like a fish in a fishbowl.

Another time also at a stop light. I notice another Elantra in the next lane. Then out of the corner of my eye I see the driver doing something. What I then realize is it's a camera facing my direction.

I guess the Elantras stills gettin' the looks.

I got a letter from the SAAQ yesterday telling me I am forbidden to drive since october 21th. I forgot to pay my driver's license  I just found the bill under a pile of paper.......it's a chance I haven't been arrested it would have cost me a few hundred bucks. I'm sure if I had known something would have happened to me. I will go to the license plate office this afternoon and pay my bill hoping nothing happen to me while driving there.

It's funny to read it snows in some part of the US (minnesota) here in Quebec, Canada still no snow at all, at least in southern Qc where I live ;) is the snow in the US now? global warming is good for Canada lol a few years back it did not snow before january.

I was at the mall this morning parked away from people as I always try to do and I'm coming out and a car is practicing parallel parking and almost hits me, then pulls out and almost hits another car. I went up to the mother of the young girl and I told her you almost hit me and another car. I suggest practicing with cones first, then maybe you can move to a used car, but I've had this for only 4 weeks. Thanks very much.

Wow, it made me sweat just thinking about it. I know its bound to happen, but I am in constant dread of the first ding.

Any way, today I went to the dealer to get an extra key and key fob for my 2011 Elantra GLS. I was pleased to see that the price for a key fob is about $70. Although I got it for about $50 thanks to the dealer discount from the guy who sold me the car. And, even more pleased by the fact that the key was completely free! Now, that is something I never got from Honda. :D

Sitting in traffic Friday afternoon and got rear ended. Brake line blew on 2001 Cavalier as it braked. His nose went down under my bumper. Take it in Tuesday for an assessment. Cavalier's air bags went off. My grandson was completely oblivious to the whole incident. Wondered why we were stopped and not moving with the traffic.

I was on my way home from grocery store yesterday evening and I had to go through a police road block setup to bust drunk drivers. Btw, I was sober :D. The cop gave me some flyers bla bla bla and he order me to turn off my yellow fog lights and said that next time I will get a ticket for driving with my fogs on in the city. I didn’t know that it is illegal. In my city, Montreal Qc., everybody is driving with the fogs on all the time!

#40 ·
The fogs are a couple hundred degrees lower than the headlights, the stock headlights are, what, 4300k? I'd guess the fogs are 4000k. Definitely yellower than the low/high beams, but not actually yellow.

That's strange about them making you turn your fog lights off. I'm nowhere near Canada, but I see cars around here with yellow fogs all the time. A lot of older Pontiacs, mostly. I've also seen a good amount of new-ish Cadillacs that have these yellow running lights that seem to always be on, even at night - with or without fogs. Maybe they go off when fogs come on, I dunno. I haven't paid THAT much attention. I wonder what they would say about this up there :D

#44 ·
Yeah. Unfortunately, the police around here don't care about lights. I've seen people put those yellow fog light bulbs in for their regular headlights a couple of times. People use every color of the rainbow for their lights. Blue is common (to the point of nearly every other car) and I see purple a few times a night. I've even seen green once

Nothing exciting happening with my Elantra today, just going to wash it. This gray is a tricky color... it hides the dark and light dirt. It doesn't look dirty, until you touch it and your hand turns black

I read something a while back about fog lights in the usa and yellow and white are both legal colors. Not sure about other countries. As mentioned some cars came from the factory with yellow fog lights.

Also today I put about 250 miles on my Elantra mostly looking at this. Very relaxing compared to a city commute nice open roads

For the past couple days it stood idle and protected by my enclosed garage. Decided to give it a little rest and use my Neon instead. But a rest that will be short lived as I plan to use the Elantra tomorrow.

Just bought 4 new Pirella Ice Control winter tires and used 16" rims off an an old Tiberon. Drove 900 kms in wind and rain, wind gusts at 60mph and all in my face..wish it was at my back, coulda got some great mileage! Not bad all things considered, averaged just under 35 mpg doing 70-75 mph the whole way (into the wind). Liked the tires as well if anyone is looking for winters, got them at Costco. Here are the rims...better than the steelies I was going to buy :) Car is dirty though boooo... Bathtime tomorrow :)
