Are there any differences between Elantraís made at the Alabama Plant vs. the Ulsan Plant?

Iím looking at getting a 2011 Elantra Limited in Blue Sky Metallic, however it looks like only the Ulsan plant makes them in that color.

Iím not looking to start an argument Ė if they are identical thatís fine with me but if there are some subtle differences Iím just curious to know.

There shouldn't be much of a difference, although I haven't seen a real detail comparison yet.

The Ulsan plant only paints certain colors. Not sure if there is a difference in the paint makeup.

Your tires will be Hankooks vs the Continentals put on at the Alabama plant. Both aren't great, a little on the noisy side.

You will also get regular emissions system. The Alabama plant is the only one producing the PZEV models.

There are probably some other things that someone can chime in about.

From what I could see during my car shopping, the only differences are the colors and brands of tire installed. The Ulsan cars have slightly different colors (Titanium Gray vs Alabama's Harbor Gray, for example), and the Ulsan cars have Hankook tires while the Alabama cars have mostly Continentals.
With Alabama running at full tilt since late last year, any early production issues are probably addressed by now, and so I suspect there is little if any difference in parts/build quality between the two plants.
As you found out, Blue Sky seems to be Ulsan-only, and I am pretty sure Red Allure is as well. Desert Bronze is Alabama only. I did notice the two blacks, the two whites, and the two grays - one for each plant.

Okay thanks for the info!

So the tire difference is no big deal?

NPMountaineer, I have seen PZEV models from Ulsan on dealers web pages.

I don't think either tire is that great, but tires are replaced eventually anyway. I've only driven on the Continentals once, and thought they were louder than the Hankooks.

Ulsan = Bragging rights with the good ol' Honda boys who bought a Canadian car.
Alabama = Bragging rights with the good ol' Ford boys who bought a Mexican car.

Seriously, it is fundamentally the same car either way

I do know that I heard the `Bama plant was one of the most advanced, highly recognized, and quality-assured plants in the Northern hemisphere. Latest innovations, newest technology updates. that sealed the deal for me. I've not regretted my Elantra purchase for one nano-second. You can color me happy!

You have to drill holes to install a trailer hitch on the Ulsan one. The Alabama one comes with the holes already there.

I went in 2008, on the way back from Orlando. Arguably better than Disney.
