I've read a few places that the 2011 Elantra has a timing chain rather than a timing belt, but then again I've heard that about a lot of cars when it in fact turned out to not be true.
So does anyone know for sure if it's a chain.

And is it just a simple mistake that they list "Replace Timing Belt" on the 90k maintenance schedule?

Where did you find that website? It doesn't appear to belong to Hyundai, and is full of errors. It implies that the 2011 Elantra is equipped with the old 2.0 litre engine from the previous model, when in fact it is equipped with an all-new 1.8.

I was reading about timing belts vs timing chains on a Mazda forum. Timing chains can still go out of sync on any car. So it's still a good idea to replace it after a certain amount of time/mileage.

I agree that the maintenance schedule looks out of whack. That's why I asked because it definitely IS from Hyundai, and it definitely IS for a 2011 Elantra (non-touring).

Go to http://www.hyundaiusa.com/
At the bottom of the page, under 'Service&Parts' you'll see a link for 'Maintenance Schedules'.
Click that, it takes you to http://www.hyundaiusa.com/maintenance-schedule/ where you can enter Model, Year, Transmission etc.

The link I posted in the OP is what it spits out.

you know what really burns me sometimes? Is when they say for instance, at 15,000 miles you should get the following service done... please see picture.

the service consists of 15 items, 13 items are inspections and two items are actual service done.

and an oil change and tire rotation. As far as i'm concerned. The only value in this service is the oil change and tire rotation. We shouldn't have to pay them to "inspect" our cars and then on top of that pay them to fix it. There is a term for this and it is called Double Dipping!
